CalorieKing launches program to benefit Joslin Diabetes Center

Program Joins New Release of CalorieKing Club and Other Efforts to Educate People about the Diabetes Epidemic and Ways to Prevent or Manage this Chronic Disease

(SAN DIEGO, CA - February 11, 2008) - CalorieKing, America's leading provider of calorie-centric education tools for food awareness, today launched a fundraising program to benefit Joslin Diabetes Center, the world's largest diabetes clinic, diabetes research center and provider of diabetes education. CalorieKing also released the latest version of its online CalorieKing Club at www.calorieking.com. CalorieKing products help people learn to manage their weight and educate the public about healthy eating, and food choices that can lead to the delay or prevention of diabetes.

CalorieKing is a nationally recognized resource for food education and awareness. The CalorieKing® Calorie, Fat & Carbohydrate Counter, released as a new edition each year, is a perennial member of USA Today's Best-Selling Books - Top 150 list, and each month, visitors to www.calorieking.com perform millions of food searches for free. For the first time, these online visitors will have an opportunity to help fund research on diabetes, the healthcare epidemic of our time.

The CalorieKing and Joslin "Shop. Click. Cure." online promotion will run through April 2008, and as visitors to the CalorieKing Web site move through the payment process for their purchases, they will be invited to donate from to to Joslin's High Hopes Fund™, which raises money for diabetes research and clinical care. More than 21 million Americans have diabetes, and nearly one third of them don't know they have it. Diabetes causes a wide range of devastating complications, from heart disease and stroke, to blindness, kidney disease and amputations.

"This exciting on-line promotion gives CalorieKing customers who want to make a difference in the fight against diabetes an easy way to donate to the world leader in diabetes research, care and education," said Michael Sullivan, Joslin's Senior Vice President, Development. "The proceeds will be instrumental in funding important research for the prevention and cure of diabetes."

"Teaming up with Joslin Diabetes Center is a win-win for people who use the resources and tools CalorieKing has to offer," said Keith McGuinness, President of CalorieKing. "They continue to get the most thorough information about food and nutrition, plus they can be assured that the education materials and nutrition information have been reviewed by Joslin."

CalorieKing Materials Reviewed By Joslin

Joslin Diabetes Center has reviewed the educational and nutritional information provided by the CalorieKing Club (www.calorieking.com/benefits.php), an online membership community where people can set goals and track progress toward healthier eating, physical activity and weight loss. Amy Campbell, MS, RD, LDN, CDE, Manager, Clinical Education Programs at Joslin Diabetes Center, found that the information provided meets "the standard principles of safe and sound nutrition." Campbell continued, "CalorieKing is an excellent source of nutrition and food awareness information, and now consumers have at their fingertips resources they need to make smart food choices and reduce their chances of being diagnosed with diabetes."

Joslin experts also reviewed the diabetes section of the 2008 edition of The CalorieKing® Calorie, Fat & Carb Counter and provided additional diabetes-related content to the book. The Carb Counter contains information and tips to prevent or delay the onset of diabetes. These enhancements reflect the latest collaboration of Joslin and CalorieKing, a relationship forged last year to help educate the public about diabetes and the importance of nutrition and physical activity in its prevention and treatment. The first step of this campaign provided access to Joslin-authored material through the CalorieKing nutrition toolbar at http://www.calorieking.com/toolbar. The innovative toolbar, which operates like a search engine browser tool but for foods, was previously available only to health plans and employers.
