So far and yet so near.

Tuesday, September 17th 2013

I was talking to one of my professors today about the philosophical concept of "property." (Ah, to what depths I've sunk!) As I was trying to capture this goofy first section of lectures, I said it seemed to me that property was a social construct developed to further a market economy, provide security, and "keep society as a whole from sinking into chaos." He replied that it sounded like the Hobbes philosophy and I said I remembered Hobbes. He said I didn't--of course, he wa...

Today was brutal

Monday, September 16th 2013

To everyone who has posted all those wonderful support messages on my blog, THANK YOU. I haven't had the time to respond, but I have read each and every message. I really appreciate your kind thoughts. I will get it together eventually and start answering.

We are still talking about some fundamental principles based on REALLY OLD cases--talking about killing foxes and whales and ducks in the 1700-1800's and who owns what and why. The point is not about killing animals, though that seemed to be the basis of a lot of the original cases. At the end of the day, it was...

I hate this. I just wrote this charming blog entry

Sunday, September 1st 2013

and hit the wrong button and now it's GONE:bang: I am such a ditz:bang::bang:

Today I actually went for a walk just for fun. It wasn't a long walk, but I did climb a steep hill. It took me a little over 20 minutes -- partly because I am pathetically out of shape and partly because I stopped to collect aluminum cans. I must say, some of the town inhabitants (college kids) know how to drink a little beer!:laugh5:

Then I went shopping for essentials--food, a toilet paper roll holder, some light beer, and a lit...
