Weekly Thread for week of 9/17/12

Happy Monday!!

So how did everyone do this past week? I didn't get to much exercise other than the incidental stuff, but I did make sure I got in my water, and worked on not eating a heavy meal at dinner time. As a result, I lost 1.2 lbs.!! Hey I'll take it. My goal is to average 2.5lbs a week and since the week prior I lost more than 2.5 I am right on track. I only have 3.2 lbs to lose before I reach the weight I started CK with a year ago last May. Isn't it funny how we can connect a time period with our weight?

So, here are the "Check-in" questions for the week:

1. What are 3 Health Goals for the week and how are you going to accomplish them?

2. What did you do that was successful last week that you are going to continue?

3. What is a "troubled" area/behavior and how are you going to decrease the "trouble"?

For me the answers are:
1. Get more sleep by going to bed earlier. Drink at least 9 cups of water/day. Fill my 3 cup drinking bottle 3x/day (around meals helps me), and eat lighter dinner meals and heavier lunches.

2. I did well with the water, and pretty good with the light dinner meals so I am going to continue to do that.

3. Not getting enough sleep! I have a lot of busy stuff on my plate, and I end up staying up too late and then have to get up too early the next day. I work late so by the time I get home it's close to 9:00-9:30pm. I just need to do very little when I get home and just go to bed. I am going to strive to do that this week.

Hi Suz!

My week was pretty rough...last Monday (while at the YMCA working out, BTW), someone broke into my locker and stole everything: wallet, keys, phone...even my clothes. Good thing I wasn't in the shower when they did it!

This is always a problem for me. Stressful situations lead me astray. Well, I should own that statement: when in stressful situations, I allow myself to go astray. So, I had a number of weeks last week when I didn't log my food. But, I did have some when I did log my food, so I'll take the good with the bad.

1. What are 3 Health Goals for the week and how are you going to accomplish them?
Get signed up at a new gym. The administration at the Y did nothing to help me or help the police, so I don't feel motivated to keep giving them money. There's a gym close by that just opened. I also want to log my food six days this week. Finally, I want to go for a hike...it's been a while because of the intense summer heat in Tucson.

2. What did you do that was successful last week that you are going to continue?
Last week I started playing on a rec volleyball league. It was SO MUCH FUN! I plan to keep playing, but I also want to find other fun, social ways to keep active.

3. What is a "troubled" area/behavior and how are you going to decrease the "trouble"?
I really need a better way to deal with stress. Last week when everything got stolen, I was like "screw it...i can't think about CK right now." I need to not let this be something I can't think about, especially since being healthier will make stressful situations easier to get through.

Hi HikingAZ!!

So sorry to hear about the theif issue. That is such a pain and such a feeling of being violated!! :angry2: I hear ya on the emotional eating and stress friendship. I'm learning that I crave those comfort foods when I'm stressed or anxious, and sugary foods when I don't get enough sleep. I love that you are playing volleyball. That is my sport of choice! I haven't really played in years, but when I did it was hard for me to ever get off the court because I enjoyed it so much. Maybe when I get enough weight off I can find a city/rec team in my area to play on. I'm afraid at the moment the weight and all that movement would put too much strain on my knees that are already feeling the strain.

Hang in there and keep working on staying track as best as possible!

Great thread/idea Suz. Thank you for starting it.

My mood is so dark now, that I can't even focus enough to think of answers. Maybe if I look at the points more, it'll help lift the mood.

1.3GOALS; To drink more water. I drink ice tea and carbonated flavored water, but its not just plain water.Try to exercise my legs more. I think I will try walking around my yard and going up and down my steps a few more times a day.I need to get up earlier than I do. Im a homemaker with grown and gone kids so there is no one home but me, so I sleep till 9-10 am. I will set my alarm to wake myself up and get ther day started.
2.DID THAT WORKED AND WILL DO AGAIN; I walked through the mall and sweated off several buckets of sweat. I think I will do it again. I will take a towel with me this time. Good thing they have benches around.
3 WHAT IS TROUBLE ARE AND HOW TO CONQUER IT? I get on the scales too much. I also weigh myself after my shower. The body soaks up moisture from your shower making you weigh more. Not really a trouble spot just thought Id add that.I sit around too much. I do believe that I will join the YMCA. I can kill two birds with one stone. My son and family live in the same building as the YMCA and they are having a baby boy tomorrow(9-21-2012 , so I can go spoil the grandchildren afterwards as a reward.

I feel great today. Dr was extremely happy with me. He even hugged me. My A1C is down, my Blood preasure is down and today my knees dont hurt too bad. WOOHOO :tongue8:

Thursday Weigh in 2nd week : I lost 6.3lbs for at total of 9.7

My health goals for this week is to do more exercise, I have a number of CD's and I pulled out 2 that I will start with. I realized I feel like the Tin Man from the Wizard of Oz, I am very stiffl from living such a couch potato life. 1 is a Yoga for Arthritis and the other is chair exercises. I will do them on alt. days. as best as I can. I have been measuring my food and will contine to do that.
I have times when the food calls my name but I have been able to distract my self. I'm hoping the more I learn to do that it will become a habit.

HikingAZ - sorry to hear about your locker situation. I do admire you for your ability to hike and play vollyball.

Toni - I will second the advice from Suz. Never give up and don't beat your self up, we have turned to food to love and comfort us and when we stress out we go back to that. We are human.

Suz - Thanks for the questions, keeps me thinking.
