What did you do RIGHT today?

Even on bad days, we generally do at least one thing right. So let's celebrate our positives.

Today, I....

:y: went to lunch at a local mom/pop place and ordered the GRILLED Walleye instead of the FRIED.
:y: logged all my food
:y: DH and I rode our bikes over to DD's to pick up DH's truck that she had borrowed

Hang tough. Binging is my weakness, too.
You're not alone. Sometimes just knowing that can help.

Today i started a mini-binge by eating 450 calories... No, that isn't the good bit... The good bit is when i put a stop to it and got on the treadmill and burned 320 calories instead of continuing to eat. Win. Now if only i can stop inhaling the contents of my fridge when i get home from work. Still working on that. :)

Doing really well, I wanted a sugary desert you know the old habits and I found a really great sugar free German chocolate frozen yogurt really good and not that many calories. I am exercising 6 days a week, starting to see a difference in my body, however, I realize I still have a long way to go, but I am definitively on the road. I am wanting to still look at the emotional issues that lead me to want to turn to sugary snacks, and one day at a time is terrific, but as I said I realize that food has consoled me through a lot of tough times such as abusive husbands and bratty kids! So, I need to make sure that I learn how to do something different other than eat, I am now using exercise where I used food.

What did I do RIGHT today?

Today I logged in to Calorie King!!!

I've been soooo far off the tracks that I haven't even been checking in. <grrrr>

Okay girl, let's get focused.

Today I logged in and have recorded every bite so far. I did a big workout at the gym. So I'm on track... all I have to do now is stay there.

Lenie, the Culver's here has nutritional brochures right in the store, plus they're on line too - I believe.

Today, I'm stopping and not eating another bite because I have my green check and don't want to mess it up - even though I have the mnchies.

I also spent 20 minutes on a stationary bike this morning and walked for about 40 minutes at lunch time.

Great idea, I was in Culvers today with my son and my granddaughter, and I was not going to eat, because I thought everything on the menu was fattening, but I ordered a chicken salad sandwich and a side salad, I think the whole thing was under 500 calories.

Thanks a MILLION

Here's another idea LeNie: Most fast food restaurants have web sites with nutritional info. So, you can look items up and take your time to figure out your choices. I do that sometimes - I decide what I'm going to order before I even leave the house. Helps fend off menu-pressure when you get there.

What did I do right today: already did my long gym workout, and so far I've logged every single bite.

Yes, I definitively check now, I had some naked wings from Pizza Hut and I checked BEFORE I ordered them, Toni, this is definitely a marathon of a life change, and congratulations on a great workout, I did not feel that great today so I did not work out today, but I will tomorrow,.

LeNie, yes, absolutely, I've had the same thing happen. You just can't go on eating all your old favorites. There's plent of good stuff out there - I am NOT into deprevation! But we really, really, have to get into the habit of checking the nutrition on EVERYTHING, before eating.

Today I did my gym workout first thing this morning.

Even better, I logged on here. I've been shirking....

Hi everyone, its really great having you all to read and share with, I wonder if anyone else had a situation like I had yesterday. I bought some frozen hamburgers (black Angus) I was very hungry and made them on the grill, ok all good right, NO wrong, I checked the box after I ate the hamburgers, one hamburger was 400 calories, I was shocked! I had eaten two, needless to say I was very upset and I did exercise later, but I did a lot of damage with the 800 calories this does not include the buns even though they were whole wheat, but I was very angry at myself for not checking the calories BEFORE I ate them. Of course, I went over my calorie limit about 300 calories,. It was a huge lesson and the other issue was I let myself get so hungry that I did not even think about the calorie content, I just wanted to eat. So, there are about 3 or 4 lessons that I learned from this entire experience and the biggest is to research the info regarding what I am eating.

Awesome Toni!!! I can remember when I felt that way about the gym and about running. I'd so like to feel that way again.

Today at breakfast I ordered an egg white omelette (cost $1 more). I felt really good about ordering healthy.

As for the rest of the day, I ended up over on my calories, but my tummy is letting me know that I might not want to do that again for a long time, lol.

Today I took a friend as a guest to my gym for a session with my trainer. And... I had fun!!!

Understand, before I got serious about losing weight, ~2 years ago, I was NOT a "gym" person. I never, ever, would've expect a gym to be a place I had a good time.

But today, it was fun to take my friend - who doesn't work out but needs to - around and show her "my" hangout. I spend so much time at the gym that everybody knows me there, and it was fun/weird to have all the regulars say hi. My buddy was pleased with the workout (my trainer is *awesome*) and so it really filled me with a good feeling to be doing sharing something beneficial with her.

I feel energized and refreshed. Determined to finish and get the rest of this weight off.

Toni, thank you so much, I like what your co-worker said "No you dont" when you thought you wanted it, I was very tempted yesterday, I just had some cherries and I was fine. I think if I find healthy alternatives that are satisfying to me, I will be just fine. Thanks, I also agree its one day at a time. So true!

DEEANN - 4:13PM PDT, Jun 7th 2012

I agree with everything Toni says. At work events, I can not let myself have even one bite of the tempting stuff. I have to stick to what ever tiny little bit might be considered half way healthy, because if I give in to even one bite of something sweet, salty, or overly processed... no matter how determined I feel, I still tend to lose all control.

Hang in there, you are stronger than you think

Dee - good going on the exercise accountability. The rubbery legs are a sign you're doing it right! Next time the muscles will be stronger; that's the way it works.

Leniegurl, I don't have any magic solutions; I too struggle with the same issues. My best trick is to just focus on today. Don't beat yourself up over yesterday. That's done. Don't agonize over the future. Just focus on today, or even on right now. TODAY you are not going to overeat. You're going to walk away from that unhealthy choice RIGHT NOW.

A few weeks ago we had a pot-luck buffet at work. Always dangerous for me. I survived by leaning on a co-worker; somebody I barely knew, actually. When I muttered, "Boy, really want one of those [temptations]..." she said, "No you don't Toni. C'mon, you know you don't need that." That's all it took, just the tiniest measure of support. I walked out of the buffet having eaten only good choice.

You can do it. Just believe in yourself for today.

The PAW challenge has added an optional exercise element. The CK recommended is 150/week, which equals 600 in a month, so that's the goal I chose.

I walked at lunch today, but by myself because my co-worker has the day off. I bumped it up a bit (speed-wise), and I averaged 3.9 mph!! I was thrilled, very hot, exhausted, and my legs felt like rubber the next time I went to stand up.

Awesome job! I think being under is perfectly okay... unless it's an EVERY day occurrence.

I PLANNED on spending some time exercising, but didn't get to that. I did most of the day, but the binge monster was knocking at my door last night (I blogged about it, so won't repeat it here). Thankfully, I was able to resist and feel much better today than if I'd caved.... No regrets! :cool6:

Oh, I know how you feel. That's the way I was feeling when I was craving the ice cream and Oreos! I would have caved big time if I'd not been too lazy to go to the store.

I know they say to try distraction when those times hit, but that's easier said than done. I don't know if my blogging about what I wanted to do before I (almost) did it distracted me or not. Guess I really don't know much of anything. I can't figure myself out either. I have these times where I can make the tougher decisions a little more often (often enough to make a difference). And then I have those times where it seems I can't make the right decision to save my life. The only thing I know for sure is that giving up is not an option.

Good going Dee. I wish I could hit my calorie range.

I have been craving junk all day. Specifically, I want M&Ms. I'm not hungry, just "crave-y".
I find myself thinking of the mouth sensations - you know, when you pop a handful in your mouth, that rattling they do on your teeth, and then first they're hard but you can push them around in with your tongue and eventually they soften and get to the chocolate stage. I don't want just one bag, either. I want to buy one of those family size (hah) bags, pour out into a bowl and then enjoy the colors as I scoop up handfuls...

*sigh* Why, oh why can't I get my brain to shut off this dialogue?

Anyway, I didn't exactly eat healthy today (ate too much) but I *DID* resist the junk urge. It's bedtime, so I've made it. For today.

Today, I made good decisions to keep my sodium under control (and stay in calorie range). After dinner, I had plenty of calories left and was hungry. I would have like to go for ice cream, but was too tired to leave the house... and there's not much in the house, lol. I was tempted by a couple of things, but because of the sodium content ended up eating some fresh fruit and some raisins.

I also walked at lunchtime today with a coworker. We did 1.91 miles at an average speed of 3.4 mph (per my cardio trainer app on my phone)

:rock1:WooHoo! WTG! Toni :rock1:

I'm right there with ya girl.... I can NOT have just ONE! Once upon a time for about a year or so, I could do that, but not before then and not now. I feel like the food equivalent of an alcoholic. An alcoholic can drink coffee, tea, and water, but not alcohol. Well, I can eat fruits, veggies, and whole foods, …. but anything with too much sugar, salt, or processing will leave me out of control.

On my last blog (when I almost went on a binge), I tried to analyze my situation… and it came down to me allowing myself a candy bar. Yep. That's what started it! And I had to chuckle myself when someone on another site (where I had also posted the blog), said she laughed when she read that the candy bar had started it all (after my LONG list of stressors in my life, lol).

Anyway… I'm still walking with a co-worker at lunch-time and staying in range calorie-wise. I do allow myself an occasional bit of 'ice cream' (Dole whip), from the ice cream stand, but have to realize that I have to work extra hard to resist a binge once I get home.

Also I've been watching my sodium because my blood pressure has continued to creep up and I don’t want to have to take BP meds. Well, let me tell you, watching my sodium has forced me to eat more whole foods because the processed stuff is loaded. I've even had to reconsider which salad dressing I buy.
