Joyce Meyer: Promises for Your Everyday Life - a Daily Devotional

Day 127 of 365
Change Your Definition of Prayer

Have you ever heard the biblical phrase "pray without ceasing"? To many, that sounds daunting and impossible. How could anyone bow their head, kneel, and pray 24 hours a day?

If that's what you think, it might be time to change your definition of prayer. Too often we view prayer as a very specific process that can only happen once we've gone to a private place and shut the entire world out.

But do you realize that even directing a thought toward God qualifies as silent prayer? It's true! Prayer is communicating with God, so when the Bible says to "pray without ceasing" it means to always be open to communication with God. That could mean a two-hour prayer session, or it could be something as simple as being aware of His presence as you go throughout your day.

God has not made prayer complicated. He intends for prayer to be an integral part of our everyday lives. Today, change your definition of prayer, and you can experience the joy that comes from constant communication with the God who loves you.

Prayer Starter: God, help me change my definition of prayer and show me ways to communicate with You day in and day out. Thank You for Your constant presence in my life.

Very nice Kris,

Good Reminder for me today. This is something that I sometimes struggle with.

James 4:11
New Living Translation (NLT)
Warning against Judging Others

11 Donít speak evil against each other, dear brothers and sisters.[a] If you criticize and judge each other, then you are criticizing and judging Godís law. But your job is to obey the law, not to judge whether it applies to you.

Have a blessed day!

YEs, that is sooo true...Its so easy to not keep the lines of communication with God open, but he CRAVES us. We should CRAVE him and want to talk to him all day.

Yesterday I had a rough day emotionally, but I turned on some of my fav christian music and just sat with God silently. It helped immensely. My outlook as of last night and today are much better, even though there have been NO circumstantial changes.

God is enough. God is everything. My joy is found in him and NOT in my circumstances....and keeping open communication with him only solidifies this.

Hey Erika! You found us! Great! So happy to see a familiar face:love: This thread can be very lonely at times :) I think this is it. We have to keep coming back to the Source. and if we don't I think God allows circumstances to bring us back..

Steph..that verse hits home. My sis is staying with me for a week and it is a little hard not to judge :) It's amazing how fast a christian can get used to her 'christian-ess' and how easily a little overt worldliness can get under your skin.******************
