Golden Group

ANNIESGIRL39 - 2:54PM PDT, Aug 28th 2007

CalorieKing is the best!!!! The Golden Group forum is much needed.....before I get too carried away, I will share a little about myself.

Recently diagnosed with Diabetes II
Fybromyalgia Syndrome
Love foods from the south (North Carolina is my home)
Love walking with my two granddogs Pip and Larry
Sing in my church choir
My husband and I have one son (the owner of our granddogs)!

Weight loss is my goal but health is the catalyst
January 2007, I weighed 235 lbs (5'7" ), joined CalorieKing
Today I weighed 215 and am very happy with the small but constant weight loss
Next weight goal is 10 more lbs. off by December 31.

Growing up on a farm gave me a love for and an understanding of the goodness in wholesome foods and how important it is to protect our earth and each other. This September I will be 68. Surely we "Golden" guys and gals are seasoned well and still ready to welcome a new dawn.

Again, I'm looking forward to sharing and being a supporting member of this group.

Hi Anniesgirl39! My mom lives in Charlotte (also my birth-town)!! I love southern cuisine, too, but I'm glad I'm not that close to it or I'd really have some weight challenges...LOL!

Congrats on your weight loss so far! You're smart to focus on small goals...it makes the whole process less daunting. Be sure to reward yourself with something nice (non-food) for your accomplishment of that goal!

Glad to have you a part of this group!

Hi Andrea, thanks for writing....I'm new at this and probably posted in the wrong place but that's ok....
I'll learn my way around quickly I hope.

We live at the city limits of Albemarle and New London.....Charlotte is only 40 miles or so away and we've driven those highways many times before moving here (to be with Mother). She passed away in 2003 and love it here so much we will stay. I also have a sister here.

Southern Cuisine is what got me where I am today! Too much fried everything and I admit I love it but have eliminated much of it from my diet. Medications also cause weight gain for me but really, that is no excuse for not exercising and eating well so must take a firm stance with myself.

We have a wonderful Wellness Director at our local hospital and am taking advantage of all classes that support my goals. As I stated before, finding and joining CalorieKing is another "goody" in the arsenal I use daily.

I look forward to being part of the group and believe each and every one of us can and will reach our goals. Good luck to everyone.

I also have a brother living in Charlotte. I'm glad he's there to keep an eye on my mom, as she's getting up in years. She doesn't like to leave her house much. She has difficulty walking; her back is bad and severly bent from osteoporosis. It makes it difficult for her to go anywhere (although I think she just uses that as an excuse--I've seen plenty of people in worse shape than her getting out and enjoying themselves). We try to get back to visit her as often as time and money allows.

It's great that you are taking advantage of all of those classes and utilizing CK to assist you with creating a healthier lifestyle.
