Hello everyone

Great group!I do know how everyone feels. Even on medication, I have to eat 250 calories less than ck or my doctor recommends to lose weight slowly! It took me months to figure it out. Not only do I have to eat less but I must exercise everyday. That is what type 2 Diabetes does to your metabolism! Insulin resistance is another name of the game. It is sometimes mind boggling trying to mix the right combinations of foods for a meal. Carbs are only god for me when they are very low on the glycemic scale. I love fruit, but can only have one piece per day. Starches Breads and grains- must be very small amounts. How do the rest of you have to balance your foods and exercise?

I have mentioned on other threads how the "lifestyle" talk fools us. Perhaps there is a lifestyle later, but a losing phase requires much more focus to the Glycemic, the fat etc. Also I need to work a fitness program into a already commuting 2-5 hours per day plus sedentary job. I do pretty well about exercise on the weekend. I have been doing a real long walk at Thurgood Marshall BWI airport at least once a month for example. But the type 2 insulin resistance, Metformin drug, etc etc adds a dimension that is beyond the charts.

Hi Guys:
I am not diabetic, but I have to eat like one to lose.

Ditto on the fruit and bread. I try to watch the amounts and keep them low in carbs.

Definitely only one fruit per day.

I recall in my younger years, only eating ONE slice of bread per day as well.

I guess it's just the fact of our lives.....

And the exercise has become essential.... Gotta find a way to work it in......

Keep posting...

My airport walk put a bit of umpfh into my program and I had some weight loss for the first time in 4 months. Trying not to begrudge what seems like extrordinary effort required to get results.

The doctor told me I'm not diabetic but that my insulin level was too high and that may lead to getting diabetes if I don't level it out. He said it was some form of insulin resistance where the body's cells don't consume sugar or glucose as they should so it gets all stored up as fat and it makes it harder for me to lose weight. So I too have to cut down on high glycemic index foods. When I first saw my trainer I told him of this and he put me on a protein, carb, and fat diet with no fruit. Protein must be lean like chicken, turkey or fish. Carbs must be like whole wheat bread, brown rice, and lots of veggies. Fat is just like olive oil, almonds, or salad dressing. After 1 month he added 1 portion of fruit for the day. He also had me doing a combination of weight training and cardio 6 days out of the week. I lost 22 pounds in the 2 months he had me on that regimen. My trainer told me he based my meal plan from the The Zone Diet because it uses low glycemic foods. He just modified it a little. I saw my doctor again 1 year later and my insulin level was back to normal. So definetly what we eat and how much we exercise does make a difference.

Hellstar:

I was surprised to learn that restricting fruit can help lose weight. I have tried that, and I did lose pretty well.

Then I got food poisoning.... and anything not pureed or soft became a problem, and I ate no fruit or veggies for several months.

I am now on meds for this condition, and slowly working all foods back into my diet, but I really have to be meticulous about calories.

And I limited my self to 4 oz of pure cranberry juice in the morning and one piece of fruit during the day sometime.

Sometimes I feel like a science project.....

Sharmon:

I swear losing weight is like a part time job for me.

I can't believe how much time and planning it takes to be successful.

Sometimes I am overwhelmed.... and I have to take a break or I feel so regimented.... Like I am (self imposed) diet boot camp for life.
