Anyone with chronic illness?

I've gained 40 pounds over the last 2 1/2 years. Actually it all came on in a 6 month period of time. Whatever has been ailing me is not a serious dx. Probably fibromyalgia and anxiety related. Been working hard on getting better.
Anyway getting up and active is very difficult. I'd like to find someone who can relate to my problem. Maybe we can lift eachother up.

All I can say is that I have severe knee problems - I have learned to just walk as far as I can without really bad pain. I started at 15 mins., then 20, now 30 mins. Even though I walked today at lunch hour, I'm planning a 50 min walk tonight with a friend. She knows I have knee problems so she adjusts her speed for me.

So I guess start small, see what you can handle and go from there.

Thanks Diane. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Just learning these boards.

Yeah, I get what you're saying. Good for you, in spite of your pain you get out there and walk. I guess I'm learning. I used to be so active. If you would have told me 5 years ago that I'd be this sedentary at 52 I would not have believed it. BUT it helps now that it's summer. Sunshine is a great lifter. I am getting outside and moving.

So here's to us. Good luck with your journey. By your current loss it looks like you're doing good.

Well, I've never been much of an exerciser so actually my walking 150 minutes per week is better at 56 than at a younger age :)

Hello, I have just joined CalorieKing and am glad to have found you. I also have gained quite a bit in the last year (at least 30 lbs) and can't believe how fast it happened! I have had arthritis and fibromyalgia for some time but a torn knee meniscus over a year ago kept me from walking and I have not gotten back into any type of exercise since the surgical repair last fall. Sometimes I feel like I am just looking for excuses but not feeling well can really keep a person down. I have just started with a new doctor who has put me on some meds that really seem to help with the aches and pains. I like your comments on starting to exercise slow and building up over time - I hope to keep this thought in mind when its time to put on my walking shoes today. Good luck to you with your efforts and thanks for the inspiration!

Hi, I've been reading through your posts and want to say Hi to everyone. I'm a newbie here.

I was diagnosed with a blood clotting disease 2 years ago (APS), and a lot of my weight gain has been since the dx. I have some physical issues, so I can't exercise like I used to. But I also find myself thinking .... I may have a stroke and die tomorrow, so why not eat what I want today! Life is too short to deprive myself of the things I like.

So I am glad to meet others and look forward to hearing your stories and challenges.

Cindi - welcome. Visited San Diego last year and loved it. My son lives in L.A.

I have blood clotting issues in my right leg. I've had lots of tests to figure it out but for now I'm on coumadin the rest of my life. Monthly blood work to be sure its going o.k.

Hi, Cindi,

I keep telling myself that life is too short to spend it with extra weight! I tell myself to try to be the best I can be during my remaining years. Who knows? I may make it to my 90's. I tell myself these things while I consume too many calories.

That does make it difficult that you can't exercise like you want to. What exercises can you do?

Donna

I only walked 3 days this week, but that is a start. Muscle fatigue and joint pain are an ongoing problem.

Bluespruce - how did you do this week? You started this thread, so we are anxious to hear from you.

sorry about the joint pain and muscle fatigue. I dont have either until after I lay down at night. then OOOOH.

Say, are you exercising too vigorously? Maybe less intensity would permit you to do more time? :look: Betty
