new to this group

I have been searching for a group to fit into and this one seems to fit. I am going to be 54 in July. I have been loosing and gaining weight for the last 40 yrs. I have been a weight watcher member so many times I have lost track. I have been on CK for about 1 year and seem to be following my old habits. I want some kind of committment to loose and keep it off. I am not getting any younger but hope to get better. :wave1:

The Oregon Trail looks like a great challenge. I'll have to check it out even though it might be hard to get actual distance here in Vienna. Everything is in meters and I can't find my pedometer. Guess I'll have to find a sports store to get a new one.

I'm a 53 yo woman who finds it very hard to lose weight and have for about the last five years. I joined CK in 2008 and this last time started to lose in 2009. But I come and go and this time I need to stick around. I need to lose all this weight and get 100% healthy again. The only health issue I have is the weight but it won't be for long if I dont' start losing.

I'm hoping to share truimphs and trials here.

I have a good and different ab workout from my trainer. stand in front of something you can hold on too, just in case. Then tilt your pelvis forward. Then kick one leg back 15 times. Then do the other leg. Do three reps on each leg. The tilting pelvis makes the abs work too. Make sure your abs are tilted. You shouldn't be able to lift your leg up very high.

Hello, Group!

Betty, I will join the Oregon Trail Challenge. I can use the treadmill at the YMCA. I want to purchase one, but I have to get my husband on board with the idea.

I like the Dark Chocolate Granola Thins, too. I am able to eat just one! I can't do that with some food items.

Hi Putytat - another Washingtonian here. You are right about the drippy days. I have a treadmill and that serves my needs. I get up, brush teeth, feed cat and jump on the treadmill.

It is boring, so much so, that I have started a group challenge to "walk" the Oregon Trail. consider joining us? go to blue bar on top. Click Community - Forums - Challenges and look for the Oregon Trail Challenge. each week let me know how many minutes you have exercised (or time if you are doing bike or elliptical that doesnt give distance). the belly ball dissolves even when weight doest go down, sometimes the scale goes down and the belly ball remains unchanged. I dont have a clue why, just rule of cuz (it happens because is does). Any, the abdominal fat is actually a nasty hormone factory so getting it down is great! congratulations.

what kind of facility are you cooking in? betty

Hi, Everybody,

I just remembered that I joined this group. Not much new to report. No weight loses. I am now working part-time as a cook. I have been since May 4. So far, I have gained a few lbs. I thought I would not gain since I am on my feet with no breaks. But, I must be eating the wrong foods.

My stomach has gone down some. Don't know why.

I am a newbie to CK and just found this forum. It looks perfect for me. I am 58 and live in the Rainy state of WA so outdoor activities are always wet. I still try to walk daily no matter how far but just do some walking. I also have walk away the pounds cd's and love them. I am also a night munchy girl and found eatting yogurt like Yoplait cups frozen takes me awhile to eat and seems to help my binges while watching TV. I hope this helps abit. I would be skinny if I didn't binge at night! Hard to break. Would love any idea's to help me also.:wave1:

Hi Aviara, I found a treat that I really like and it's only 80 calories. There are called Dark Chocolate Granola Thins. Unfortunately they can be addictive. I will try your idea of mixed fruit with some yogurt for evg. snack.

aviara: Hi and welcome. this program is great, just have to hang in. I am glad you found Zumba. It is great work out. I wish I could but (low back issues and lack of time). so for me it is the treadmill, every am. boring, but it is not part of my life: wake up, brush, feed cat, get on treadmill. But it works. to pass the time I started keeping track of miles. I have walked over 400 since first of the year. then in April I started a group challenge: a walk from Vancouver to Tiajuana. There are 8 of us in the group. one of the group does zumba. she tallies her time spent dancing and converts it to miles. minutes spent divided by 20 (her typical walking speed is 20 minute mile). You are invited to join us. you can find us under challenges: vancouver to tiajuana.

My friend's daughter teaches Zumba and I hear it's an unbelievable workout, but tons of fun! Good for you...exercise HAS to be fun. In response to your evg. snack...(it is such a tough time of day isn't it)....I find I like to have lots of those small pack 100 calorie 'treats' around...they're usually very tasty and therefore feel like a REAL treat....or a good size portion of mixed fruit with maybe just a 'dollop' of yogurt on the top....that can be pretty filling!

HióIím trying to use all the features of CK. Iím 53. Iíve struggled with my weight for over 20 years. Iím trying to stay within my calories and exercise goals but itís hard for me to be consistent for 5 days in a row. Iím looking for ideas for my evening snack, other than carrots or celery. I have discovered a fun way to get some exercise, Zumba dance class. Even though Iím not the greatest dancer the music and people in the class really help to motivate.

Newbie here .... just joined CK today .... have been up and down in weight all my adult life. Been a WW member more times than I can remember....although 20 yrs. ago, I had the most success with them. Different age, body, and everything else now! I have small successes (that seem to take forever), then 'life' gets in the way, and before I know it, those successes have gone. Veryyy frustrating...! I have a new g/daughter now and she walked at 9 mths. and at almost a year now, I can already see I'm going to need a whole bunch of energy to keep up with her....that's my new motivation. I also spend a lot of time alone, which is very dangerous for my eating habits.

Anyway...hello everyone, and I'm from Ontario, Canada :wave1:

I'm back. Sent you a message. Life got real busy in the last couple of weeks. I am sure others have those weeks where life/work/family gets so busy you can't even find time to think about a calorie much less log on and write about them. Also, my antique lap top computer is about to crash (am on my daughter's wonderful new Mac right now - loving it). Half the time I can't even get my laptop to work so for Calorie King, if nothing else, I need a new computer. Hope everyone else is doing fine and losing weight and getting in shape.

Sounds like we have some of the same issues. I have found, though, that the more I exercise he more energy I have. but in addition, I found out I had sleep apnea, which was a big suprise. was started on C-pap therapy and that is helping as well. that is helping my renal function, which, by the way, is why I was put on a special combination vitamin called Diatx-zn. this lowers homocystine level in some unexplained way. anyway, my GFR is increasing and I am delighted.

And, as for the belly ball - is is dissolving but not as I would like., it seems to be melting in from the edges so that the overall size is diminished but waistline is not. :bang: but smaller is smaller and I will take what I get!

Hello to all. Just looking around on the boards this afternoon and remembered that I joined this group! I am glad to hear that many of you are having issues with bellies!! Mine is stubborn in holding on to the fat! I worked as an educator in the women's health field for many years - am now the director of an educational access program, which means helping low-income, first-generation to college high school students get into and succeed in higher education. My work has always been a big part of what I do. Since my mid-50's health issues, my own and my spouses, have had a tremendous impact on what I do! I'm tired. Anyone else struggle with energy levels? I know part of it is the health stuff (well-controlled diabetes, less well-controlled high bp, threatening kidney failure - stage 3) but part of it must be age-related. I'm trying to be more active. Great to meet all of you.

We create surgical scrub caps for doctors and nurses. We have sales all over the world, literally. 3 styles, one that can be worn by women going through hairloss due to chemo, etc. Our daughter was an O.R. nurse for the Navy and got us started sewing for her and it just mushroomed from there. Our site is called CAPS MADE 4 YOU.

Cool about your own practice. My daughter in now a Clinical Development Coordinator for a hospital in Wisconsin. She got a little burned out with O.R. - worked on soldiers coming back from the war.

with me it was opening my own business! the stress did me in. caused incredible appetite surges and, of course, for all the wrong foods. glad to be in a program that holds me accountable. it is working. must say I was discouraged when my goal was set at 17 lb loss. :nono1:

When I lost all my weight in 2004 on the WW Core Plan, my belly seemed to shrink right up. Its the processed foods and eating out so much in our life right now that gets it back "out there" in size :(

Looks like you are doing great! slow and steady is the answer for sure. I love the group support too. And like you I have an abdominal fat pad that I call my "Belly Ball". I have noticed with the passage of time it is getting smaller, though, but not front to back, seems to be decreasing in lateral size, at least I have more free skin roll now. Of course, tape measure isnt recording much of a difference, but with time......... Keep up the good work.

Hi all - I'm 57 and my stomach looks like I'm going to deliver in a few months :(

I am currently following the WW plan as I've been a member of CK since 2007 and never really got into it. However, the people here on the forums are top notch which is why I've continued to pay my membership $$

I've been losing at a rate of .5 per week basically. But this is the 1st time in ages, actually years, that I'm holding my weight under 200# week after week instead of going above 200 like in the past.

Good to see some activity here!!

This is now my second week on CK and I am finding it better to plan my next day's meals out the night before. I really like the nutritional aspect of the program. I am finding a lot about myself in terms where most of my calories are going. I am not nearly getting enough calcium in my diet.

Am glad you are here. Have been with CK for a short time, but I really like the program and the on-line support. I am 56 and am really struggling to get weight off. Menopause doesn't help. It is much harder to get that metabolism going at this age. I go to the gym about four times a week (with my wonderful husband) but was not losing anything because I wasn't doing anything about my impulsive eating. I have lost inches from the gym workouts, and my clothes fit better, but I really need to lose some pounds, too. Good luck with your journey.:hi:

Thanks for the support. I have not read "Thin for Life" but have bought several other books about weight loss, all of which have very good ideas and I am sure all of the programs would work, if I just stuck to the plan! I know exercise is the key to losing weight at this point in my life (along with calorie reduction) so I developed a sort of dance routine (I am NOT a dancer, so I guess it is kind of hilarious!) to some of my favorite tunes, so have been doing that for 30 minutes a day. I don't suppose it burns a lot of calories but it is still movement, and I like it, so I guess that is the bigger issue...if a person likes what they are doing, they are more likely to continue doing it. I do enjoy reading all the forums and comments and it seems everyone here is very friendly. I better get to work now. Have a great day, everyone!

Welcome to the group. We are more challenged in our fifties. It will take longer. I lost about 10 lbs. when I joined two years ago. I am having trouble losing more. I think as soon as I lose a few lbs., I think I can relax on the calorie intake. I have to try harder, not relax. I am my own worst enemy. I know we don't want to lose quickly, but I am going way too slow! One of the reasons we don't want to lose too quickly, we would have lose skin. I have enough wrinkles!

You are fortunate that you and your husband can work together on a healthy lifestyle.
