Congrats on your surgery date. I had mine almost three years ago to the day (Aug. 23, 2004). It was the best decision for me. I lost 120 lbs. total (mostly in the first year) and to date have managed to maintain my weight with the help of sites like CK! It is the best site to track your intake after surgery b/c you'll need to be sure to get all your protein in. Best of luck to you!

Hi there everyone.

I had Open RNY 7-10-2000

I lost 150 lbs but never finished losing all that I had wanted to lose so to this date I continue to work on my eating habits and weight loss. But it will forever be a life long change. I have no regrets. Some of my friends ask me if I do since I never finished and I continue to "diet" but I dont see it that way, I literally could not take more than 3 steps, i could not bend down to tie my shoes.... and I was only 27 years old. so without the surgery I dont know where I would be right now.

At least now I can do the right things to move forward, i continue to go to the gym and walk on the treadmill and drink my water everyday, count calories, etc. I have been CK since 2003 and I think its the greatest. Its such a smart tool after weight loss or and during, no matter which type of program someone chooses.

Its nice to have "Groups" on CK. Back when I had my surgery, if you mentioned you had GBS, you had your head chewed off, so its much more accepted or at least tolerated on here now. I dont feel as though I have to hide in the dark.

Thank you for being you.

Hi Jennifer,
I am glad you started this group.
I had the Gastric adjustable Band put in in Jan 2006. I have only lost 60 pounds. Frustrating but nevertheless the best choice I ever made in my life.

Hi everyone! :wave1:

I'm not having WLS, but my mother is considering having a lap band put in. I don't know if she will be able to get it (she's on the light side for lap band... just over 200 lbs). I'm concerned about all the risks of surgery, but I'm also happy that's she's trying to do something for her health. For the past 15 years she's teetered between obese and morbidly obese and hasn't had much success with dieting. She has decent cholesterol, but diabetes runs in our family (even some of the thinner people have it).

I'm glad there's now a place to post about WLS without everyone immediately slamming it or saying it's the easy way out (based on everything I've read, it doesn't sound easy at all!).

Thats wonderful LLLLSSSS...

I remember even just the small milestones in my first month after having lost 36 lbs. I was able to walk an entire mall without having to stop every three steps, my back no longer acked. I could tell I had to lower my CPAP machine for my sleep apnea as it was uncomforable so that meant i could breath better at night. So many little things that some may not think about...

BUT the big thing that I remember was when in my car, I was when my STOMACH did not hit the steering wheel in the car anymore. There was 1 inch space from my belly and the wheel.... WOW and that was pretty cool..... It was my dad who noticed it.

What things has everyone noticed?

Jennifer,
I LOVED when my stomach didn't hit the steering wheel. I also felt amazing when I did not need the seat belt extender on a plane flight!!!!

But I do still need the CPAP machine. Ah, well, that too will be history soon enough.

Hi,

I had GB surgery almost two years ago. I have lost a total of 150 lbs. I have no trouble maintaining my current weight but still want to loose another 90 lbs. It is helpful to have a support system in place to stay motivated. Watching my calorie intake, making it to the gym as many times a week as possible, getting my water in and not snacking are all areas I need to work on. My goal is to loose 5 to10 lbs a month and I believe I can do it if I stay on track and excercise regularly.
