Hi all!
I had my WLS, an RNY 10/01/08. I weighed 248 and today, 11/5/08, I weigh 224.
I am very happy with both my surgery and my results and am eating some solid foods if I can puree them by chewing a lot. Today I tried my first salad... great idea, but too soon. Back to the old drawing board.
The hardest thing to figure out was how to get enough protein (50-70 grams) every day, but I finally figured that one out - a protein shake (30 g.) in the morning with one scoop of protein shake powder (18 g.) and a 4 ounce lite yogurt (5 g.) added which counts for two of my four small meals and snacks.
Another challenge was giving up carbonated beverages like my favorite, diet lime coke. My doc explained to me that the carbonation expands and can enlarge my stomach pouch I worked so hard to get small. So now I drink water, decaf ice tea, Crystal Light, Fuze, 2 oz. of prune juice, and milk. Sometimes I forget and don't drink enough (48-96 ounces), but I am working on that one and on walking/exercising enough. I am looking for an exercise buddy at my gym. It is so much easier if I make a commitment to meet someone than to motivate myself to just get there.
Every day I take my Flintstone chewables twice and my sublingual B-12 (melts under my tongue) faithfully and iron once a week.
I am a work in progress!
If you want to find out more about my experience with WLS I have a blog on SparkPeople.com and my name there is the same as it is here: sunsetinaz
I use CK and SparkPeople.com to work on my goals. They are both great!
Nice to meet you all!
