" Don't think of it as a diet, but as a healthy new lifestyle" was the attitude that saw Debra lose 112 lbs!
What were your weight-control goals?
I started out needing to lose at least 200 lb.
What motivated you to lose weight?
I was starting to get high blood pressure and diabetes runs in my family. I was so tired all the time - just a short trip to the grocery store wore me out for the rest of the day. I was terrified of becoming immobile and I felt like I really needed to lose weight for my health. My two daughters are handicapped and I want to be here for them as long as possible. I was also tired of trying to find clothes large enough. At 360 lb, there wasn't very much to pick from in the clothing department of the plus size shop. I had to buy Muu Muu's, cut them off and insert a triagle of cloth in the sides to make blouses large enough for me.
What was your weight-loss method?
I found CK and was very happy with the forums and support system. I am currently consuming 1200-1400 calories a day, drinking at least 2 liters of water a day, and trying to exercise more. I am having some back problems so I am not always able to exercise, but I try to walk whenever my pain level will permit.
What were some obstacles you encountered while losing weight?
My daughter broke her leg very badly and was in the hospital and rehab hospital for 30 days, and a very long recovery period after that. I was able to keep losing during the whole ordeal. My family has been very supportive, but we have a very hectic lifestyle with four young adults still living at home, going various directions at once. We seldom all get to sit down to a meal together.
What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?
Get going with it. Procrastinating just makes it more difficult. Don't think of it as a diet, but as a healthy new lifestyle. Keep a food journal and write down everything you eat. Try to stay focused and positive. Reach out to supportive friends when times get tough.
How do you feel now that you've lost weight?
I feel so much better! I have so much more energy and I don't have the desire or need to take a nap in the middle of the day. I still have more weight to lose, but what I have lost has helped me immensely. When I think that I have lost the equavilent to over 4, 25 lb bags of kitty litter, I wonder how I carried it all around every day!!! I love being able to go to the movie theatre and fit in a seat, or go to a resturant and not worry where I am going to sit so that I can fit. My blood pressure has come down and so far I haven't had to go on blood pressure medicine. I am also so excited to be able to buy clothes at a regular store. I look forward to every day now. I know I will reach my goal.
How have the products or services offered by CalorieKing assisted you in your weigh-loss journey?
The website has been a great help to me. The forums and staff are very supportive and helpful. There are so many informative articles and information available with the library and CK University. The calorie database is very complete, I can find almost anything. I also love the pocket calorie counter. I keep one in my car and one at home. It is very handy if I am eating out or traveling.
