I want to get to a size 8 and then fine tune from there. I've never been thin, and have no idea how I'll look! My goal is to be as lean and fit as I can be and still have the kind of social life I enjoy.
What is your motivation for losing weight?
I was tired of sitting on the sidelines, unable to experience life to the fullest because I was too tired, sick, felt too fat, too out of shape, whatever. I wanted to know what it felt like to RUN and not have things jiggle and shake. I take bellydance classes and yoga, and want to know how it feels to move without the hindrance of all of that fat in the way!
What is your weight-loss method?
I eat a lot of vegetable and fruits, relatively small amounts of meat, and I workout several times a week.
What obstacles have you encountered while losing weight?
My biggest obstacle along the way has been ME. I have stood in my own way countless times! My son and boyfriend are very supportive, although they do not share my fitness interests. I had to peel away lots of layers and get to the bottom of why I was sabotaging myself. I have picked up many tools for dealing with my emotions and personal relationships along the way!
What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?
Find a group of like minded, positive people and stick with them. Whether it be online or in "real" life, you need support and people who understand what you are dealing with.
People who understand when you need to call someone in the middle of the day and say, "The leftover birthday cake from the office lunch is talking to me, please talk me down off of this ledge!"
Understand that you may need to give up some foods that are triggers. Adjust your attitude so that you can see that you aren't depriving yourself by doing this, that you are empowering yourself by just saying "No!".
