What are your weight-control goals?
To regain my health, fitness, and former "savage" self! (I was an athlete and fairly competitive in my day.)
What is your motivation for losing weight?
Three things: 1. I was scared for my health, of how winded I was becoming doing simple tasks, and how tired I would get standing on my feet. 2. Physical fitness = strong mental health for me. I used to be a pretty competitive athlete and always felt better and more in control of my personal and professional life when I was slim. 3. Poor self image. I was using my weight as an excuse to continuously sabotage my efforts at socializing or reaching out professionally. This is not a good thing for someone who makes their living as a consultant!
What is your weight-loss method?
I control my calories and eat simple, healthy meals using ingredients with minimum prep, processing and that are as close to "real" as possible. I steer clear of prepared and frozen foods.
What obstacles have you encountered while losing weight?
My biggest obstacle was my own willpower to permanently change some poor habits that sabotage me, like overeating at night because I hadn't eaten enough during the day. I also discovered that I was unwilling to completely trust CK, and insist on doing certain things "my way." Hah!
What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?
Get out there and move! It certainly seemed overwhelming to me at first, and I most definitely used this as an excuse to stay sedentary for a very long time. I was fearful of starting, but it only took a few weeks to feel renewed and like I could hang in there physically.
How do you feel now that you're achieving success?
Awesome! Everybody notices a 50 pound weight loss, though many can't say exactly what has changed. I am confident, glowing, and am about to start a new job. I have also found the courage to begin making new friends through the gym. Who knows? I may even try dating again!
