What were your weight-control goals?
I wanted to fit into a size 12 (I'm now a size 10). I wanted to be the weight I was in High School (I am). I wanted to be able to bend over and tie my shoes without losing my breath (I can). I wanted to be sexy for my husband again (I am).
What motivated you to lose weight?
See my weight-loss goals - they were all motivation for me! Also, when people started to notice, it just made me want to hit my goal even more. I have a friend at work who I went to after each successful weigh in and we had a mini celebration. Also, my husband started getting more attentive...and jealous of other guys' attention. It felt good.
What was your weight-loss method?
I cut back on my fat intake because I had to. I'd had my gallbladder removed and couldn't digest fat as well as I used to. The first few pounds fell off easily because of that. Once I hit my plateau, I re-evaluated my diet and realized that I was practically vegetarian, why not take the final step. I did and the last 15 pounds dropped quite easily.
What were some obstacles you encountered while losing weight?
I lost my motivation to LOSE for about 4 months. I maintained pretty well during that time, but it was really hard for me to lose any more weight. Also, I hit 170 lbs, which was 15 pounds from goal, and couldn't break the plateau.
What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?
LOG, log, log, log. Hit the forums for support and motivation. Join challenges. Go through CK University. Watch your fat intake. Get the snacks OUT OF THE HOUSE. If you can't resist it, don't buy it!! Exercise, no matter how much you hate it. Get SOME in every day and this doesn't have to be "formal" exercise...weed your garden, walk the dog, clean the bathroom, play with your kids...there are tons of ways to get in fun "exercise". Make your weigh in day Monday (or as close to it as you can). It makes you behave over the weekend.
How do you feel now that you've lost weight?
EXCELLENT! I still get amazed when I do something that makes me realize how flat my stomach is, such as when I slip through a small opening that I wouldn't have fit through before, or when I shop for mediums instead of extra large. I get compliments and someone even whistled at me the other day!!
