Lynn has lost 68 lbs and says, "I feel fantastic!"
Before: 210 lbs After: 142 lbs
What are your weight-control goals?
I wanted to lose weight and to lead a healthy lifestyle.
What is your motivation for losing weight?
I wanted to be able to do more physical activity. We went on a vacation to Italy and during the vacation we were climbing Mt. Vesuvius. I couldn't get half way up the mountain. I decided then I needed to do something to get into shape. I wondered how much I would enjoy my future retirement if I wasn't able to do anything.
What is your weight-loss method?
There are many components to my weight-control method but the two most important things which have assisted me to create a whole new lifestyle are getting exercise daily and eating every 2-3 hours.
Other important things are: * Eating only pure foods such as fresh fruit and fresh veges. Nothing processed. No preservatives, or as little as possible. * Keeping to my Calorie Target and eating 6 balanced meals per day. *Exercising 35-60 minutes each day. I use a heart monitor while I'm exercising so I can see my heart hitting the 85% target heart rate and keeping it there for approximately 35-45 minutes. *Getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep a night, when possible. The combination of these things has really made a difference for me.
What obstacles have you encountered while losing weight?
I do have challenges. I sometimes don't eat enough. While I get all my little boxes checked which shows I've had my veggies, my meats, my starches, fruits, etc. I tend to choose lower calorie options so sometimes I fall short of my Calorie Target. I think, because of this, my metabolism tends to 'hold' the weight at times. So I have to splurge once in a while to make the scale move.
When I have social occasions I try to plan for them so that I can enjoy what everyone else is eating or I bring something to eat with them while still maintaining my plan.
What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?
*Realize that everybody is different and that what works for someone else may not be the way to go for you. *Think long term. Weight control is about lifestyle change. The changes you make to your life should be sustainable. Aim to make changes which you could incorporate into your daily routine for the rest of your life. *Determine what your current weight is, determine what your goal weight is and don't worry about how long it will take to get there. *Determine what your resting heart rate is and what your target heart rate is. *Work out at least 5-6 days a week and make sure that your heart rate gets up to 65-85% for 30 minutes or more. *Eat 5-6 balanced meals which include fruits, veggies, meats, starches, milk, and DRINK WATER! Avoid any processed foods like white sugar, flours, etc. *Have variety in your meal planning (definitely plan your meals).
How do you feel now that you're achieving success?
I feel fantastic! I love being a 44+ year old who's getting whistled at again! It has made a great difference in my approach to doing things like walking, going to parks, etc. I love that I have had to buy all new clothes and they are fun clothes!
