Roger has lost 57 lbs so far, is fitter and now has better control of his Type 2 diabetes.
Before: 276 lbs After: 219 lbs
What are your weight-control goals?
My goal is to get to a healthier weight for me using better eating habits and exercise. Currently I would like to lose another 40 pounds. My goal is to be 20 pounds lighter in five months and to lose the last 20 lbs in the next nine months.
What is your motivation for losing weight?
Just over a year ago, I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes. I was given 3 months to control my blood sugar with diet and exercise or take meds. I took my A1C from 7.4 to 5.1 in the first 6 months after the diagnosis.
What is your weight-loss method?
I have used better eating habits and exercise. I took the time to learn about food and I set and maintained exercise goals.
What obstacles have you encountered while losing weight?
The toughest is time related. More so in the winter months when I am coaching high school hockey. Then exercise time is short, I tend to eat meals on the go and I tend to snack more. Also I chose running as a major part of my exercise program and the Maine winters also make that tough because I hate the treadmill.
What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?
It is not a diet we are on it is a change in lifestyle. I think many people have the mindset that a diet is a temporary answer to shed a few pounds. While that may work short term, in order to be healthier you need to make permanent changes - only then can you succeed in controlling your weight for life.
How do you feel now that you're achieving success?
I feel great. I have tried other diet plans. Many other plans. Too many to mention. I always made good progress for a few weeks then I would go back to old habits and land heavier than when I started. It feels great to be able to continue on a program for a year and still be doing well. Have there been setbacks? Yes there have, but I have maintained the weight loss and I continue with better habits with both eating and exercise.
How have the products or services offered by CalorieKing assisted you in your weigh-loss journey?
The food diary is a wonderful tool. But what has helped me more than anything at CalorieKing is the forums. The support and motivation of fellow CK members has been wonderful. I have learned so much from them and I am pleased to call many of them friends. They guided me through running my first 10K, picked me up when I hit a plateau and kept me on task when the scale did not co-operate. Anyone who joins CK and does not take advantage of the forums is missing out on the what, I feel, is the best CK has to offer: the support of people on the same journey.
