Lory is well on her way to reaching her goal weight of 120lb and says, "I feel great."
Before: 193 lbs After: 160 lbs
What are your weight-control goals?
I am trying to reach 120 pounds which would mean I would have lost a total of 120 pounds by the time this is all over. So far, I have lost 80 of those pounds and 33 of those have been with CK.
What is your motivation for losing weight?
I have a lot of motivating factors, but the main ones are health concerns, such as getting off medications like insulin. I would like to be able to do that. I would also like to continue to keep my cholesterol and blood pressure down which I found can be done with a lower weight and good eating habits.I have a good size list of motivations I read to myself everyday to keep me motivated and that helps during the tough times.
What is your weight-loss method?
I am a diabetic so I use a diabetic diet and limit my carbohydrates to 180-190 a day along with eating around 1330 calories a day. I do not eat sugar-free desserts very often but stay mainly with fruit as my main source of sweets. I try to stay with low glycemic foods when possible, but don't always.
What obstacles have you encountered while losing weight?
My family is very supportive, so for me it's been the mental part of dieting that is the hardest part to conquer. I have battles with myself over eating past my bedtime snack, emotional eating, eating when I think I'm a little hungry, occasional binge eating, just to name a few of the things I have had to overcome. I also had to overcome physical limitations due to a bad back which has kept from being able to exercise like other people. My mobility is limited and I have pain when I exercise, but I manage. I am proud to report that today, even though I exercise in pain, I can do so out of the pool now. I can now walk 1 mile on land!
What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?
Weigh and measure your food at all times for accurate results. I weigh all my food at all times. You get the best results by weighing. I am a big believer in putting your food down in some kind of journal because it keeps you from binging and helps you to track your calories. Also, keep the junk food out of the house. The less temptation there is in of the house, the better. If you have kids, just remember, they don't need to be eating junk food either.
How do you feel now that you're achieving success?
I feel like the chains that bound me have been broken and I have been set free. I have been conquering my demons, so to speak, and I feel great. I have a new confidence in myself I didn't have before.
