What were your weight-control goals?
I initially wanted to lose 70lbs to get under the 200lb mark. When I reached 175lbs I knew that I wasn't happy where I was - so I changed that goal to 145. My main goal at this time is to have a healthy body mass index (BMI).
What motivated you to lose weight?
You know, I think I just got sick and tired of being 'the fat girl'. I was tired of wearing big, unshapely clothes. I was tired of feeling like a prisoner in my own body. I'd never been so uncomfortable in my own skin as I was when I was at my heaviest and I decided it was time to change all of that.
What was your weight-loss method?
My weight-loss method was Weight Watchers coupled with CalorieKing.com - talk about a lifesaver! Weight Watchers is great - don't get me wrong - but, CalorieKing gives you more than just points values. I wanted to watch my fat, sodium, cholesterol, fiber and sugar intake as well - and CalorieKing was just what I needed!
What were some obstacles you encountered while losing weight?
During the past 3 years of this weight-loss journey I have worked as a traveling consultant. Believe me when I tell you that it can either be really easy to mind your nutritional Ps&Qs while on the road and left to your own devices - or it can be very, very difficult - especially when loneliness and boredom set in.
What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?
My tips are standard tips: Write down everything you eat & hold yourself accountable for the time you fall off of the wagon. Also, realize upfront there will be ups and there will be downs on this road - prepare yourself for those. Some days you're going to want something that you know you shouldn't have. If you have it anyway - it's okay - tomorrow is a new day. You are capable of anything if you believe you are.
How do you feel now that you've lost weight?
I feel like a brand new woman! I've been overweight my whole life - and I mean for as long as I can remember. So, to be sitting here today weighing less than what I weighed in middle school - it's surreal to say the least. I feel like I can do anything. I feel like I want to do EVERYTHING! There is nothing physically stopping me from achieving all of my goals, and pursing all of my interests now. It is a fantastic feeling!
