Ingredients:

Whether or not they are topped with whipped cream, café coffee drinks can be high in calories, fat and carbs. Our recipe makeover substitutes carob and skim milk for chocolate syrup and half-and-half, making a 'guilt-free' beverage.

  Recipe Makeover

1 tsp decaffeinated coffee

1/2 tsp powdered carob

1/4 cup hot water

1 sugar substitute equiv. to 1 tsp sugar

4 ice cubes

1 cup skim milk


  Traditional Recipe

2 Tbsp ground expresso beans or instant coffee

1 Tbsp chocolate syrup

1/4 cup half-and-half

4 ice cubes


Directions:

Dissolve coffee and carob in hot water.

Cool; add sugar substitute.

Place coffee mixture and skim milk in blender or screw-top jar. Mix thoroughly until combined and frothy. Serve over ice cubes.

Variations:

If desired, substitute 1 tsp. granulated sugar for the sugar substitute (allow for extra calories).

For a tasty summer dessert, add one scoop (100ml) of light ice cream (add an extra 65 calories, 1.5g fat).
