
This is comfort food at its yummiest.
Serve with pasta and a green salad, if desired.
1/2 cup dried breadcrumbs
1 cup Italian tomato sauce
2 1/2 cup water
1 egg or yolk-free egg substitute
500.00 g lean ground beef
71.43 g uncooked rice
Preheat oven to 350°F.
Mix ground beef, egg and breadcrumbs together. Make into 12 balls.
Roll in rice and place in casserole dish.
Mix Italian tomato sauce with water and pour over meat balls.
Cover and bake in moderate oven for 1 hour.
Prepare as directed in standard recipe.
Place in microwave dish, cover and cook on HIGH for 20 minutes.
Canned tomato soup may be substituted for Italian tomato sauce as a time saver, but the sodium will be high.
If using yolk-free egg substitute, cholesterol will be 35 mg per serving.
