What were your weight-control goals?
My primary weight loss goal was to improve my health. A secondary goal was to be able to shop in any store. I wanted to buy clothes off the rack and wear them with confidence.
What motivated you to lose weight?
My motivation came from the recognition that my overall health was decreasing. I had difficulty just walking a few yards, my diet was unhealthy, and I have a family history of diabetes. As a result, my physician warned me to make a change or get comfortable with the idea of becoming insulin dependent. I decided to make a change.
What was your weight-loss method?
My weight loss method has become a combination of healthy choices and exercise. In the beginning, it was very difficult because my whole life I’ve made unhealthy choices. Change is always hard. That is why I started my journey with monitoring my dietary intake. I chose low fat healthy meals and portion control. After Calorie King’s Meister himself made the suggestion, I slowly incorporated exercise into my lifestyle. I joined my local YMCA. I now exercise on a regular basis 5 to 6 times a week. My success is result of determination, a low fat diet and regular exercise.
What were some obstacles you encountered while losing weight?
My biggest obstacle became my biggest learning tool. I definitely struggle with binges, as many of you do. Initially, I was overwhelmed with guilt and lack the ability to forgive myself for the binges. I have since learned how to use the binges to help me understand myself and learn from them. I question myself as to why I binged, am I hungry or am I using food as a coping tool for an emotional issue? Being able to identify the causes has helped me deal with and prevent some but not all binges.
What tips do you have for others who are trying to lose weight?
My motto is "One day at a time". Make it a lifestyle change. Success is not a diet, it is a change in your lifestyle. Keep junk food out of the house. You are less likely to make unhealthy choices this way. Use the website. Read and post as much as you can. Become part of the CK community for advice and support. Make time for exercise. Treat it like a job/responsibility. Plan ahead so you will be able to handle most any situation. Don’t deprive yourself. If you plan ahead and use portion control you can have those occasional treats. DON’T GIVE UP! If you get off track, get up, brush yourself off and get back on track as soon as possible. Setbacks are normal. We are all human. Just try to learn from your setback so they really become fewer and further apart. The important thing is to believe in yourself. No matter what, NEVER GIVE UP!
How do you feel now that you've lost weight?
I feel great. My life has changed. I am much healthier. Now I am able to enjoy walking and swimming with ease. I have totally transformed myself into a healthy, active person. In fact, sometimes people do not even recognize me. That is the ultimate compliment of my achievement.

I am proud that I’ve become a part of the CK community. I would like to give a special thanks to all the CK members who have supported and encouraged me. Many times I have felt like giving up but through the support and encouragement that I received from CK, I am able to continue my healthy lifestyle. Although I still have a long ways to go before I reach my weight loss goal, I know now that through the support and encouragement I receive at, I will make it to goal.
