About this Recipe Makeover

These Bagel Chips are a nice alternative to traditional potato chips. The made-over bagel recipe adds herbs for extra flavor, and reduces the amount of oil and salt.

Ingredients Show Makeover Show Traditional

  • 2 Tbsp canola oil
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 1/4 tsp dried mixed herbs
  • 2 small bagels (2 oz each), plain or onion, cut into small bite-size pieces
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 oz Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
  • 3 large potatoes (russet or white), peeled and very thinly sliced
  • 1 Tbsp salt
  • 1 quart oil for deep frying

Heat the oil in a skillet and add the garlic and mixed herbs. Cook for 1 minute. Add the bagel pieces in batches, turning them for about 3 to 5 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp. Drain the bagel chips on absorbent paper towels.

Serve in a warm serving dish, seasoned with salt and pepper and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese.

Can serve as an accompaniment to your favorite dip.
