Oh dear. Well, here's the thing: Hubby and I are going to Dingle, Ireland to meet up with an internet buddy (WOOHOO!!!!!!) and do a road race. Question is, what length? Found out today they do an ultra-marathon...50 miles my friends. I tell hubby I am thinking of the ultra (after all, a trip to Ireland for a mere marathon???). Hubby freaks. "There is no way I am going out in the field with you to train for an ultra" (currently he drives me to BFE and waits 3 -3.5 hours for my long runs). "But honey," I say, "this training isn't that different, you do the same as for a marathon but do back-to-back long runs" (i.e. 17 miles one day, 19 miles the next). Yeah, that didn't sell him one bit. So here's what I am thinking...maybe I can train for the ultra but just don't tell him. I am usually the errand runner-grocery getter anyhow, so will he notice if I am gone for an extra three hours? I think it is safe to say that #1 after 11 years marriage he probably won't notice, #2 he is a guy so he probably won't notice (can always claim shoe shopping), and #3 (painful but true) he is 57 so he will probably fall asleep and not notice how long I've been gone. I know, I know...I am evil and a bad wife...but at least I am an evil and semi-attractive bad wife, right???

I dunno, thoughts anyone?? I can barely finish a full marathon, but a 1/2 marathon is chump change. So maybe if I train for the ultra the full will be a piece of cake? Maybe I am obsessed with running? Hubby discounted ultra by saying that I am "not a professional runner"...duh, I am Turtle Lady. But what do you all think? Should I go for it?

Life is not a dress rehearsal:wink3:

Think of it this way...each day is a little more than a half marathon. So chump change..plus a dollah! Can you smell what I'm stepp''n in sistah? heehee. You can totally do this. How many people can say they ran an ultra marathon in Ireland?

I dont think the issue will be him noticing how long your gone, but you coming back all sweaty like you just ran 10-15 miles!...That might be a dead give away and blow your cover!

Compromise and try mapping a run locally so he doesn't have to drive you to BFE. Just be honest and ask him to support you on this one.

I say if you really want it~ go after it.

Go for it, and if he does notice which he will eventually I'd go with the shoe shopping one. :laugh5: Your curse will only be if you are a creature of habit, then he might notice much sooner than later.
