The new CEO started the Monday after Thanksgiving... He has been systematically re-evaluating all salaried employees one by one and essentially re-interviewing them.
I thought that I was staying under the radar but this morning he greeted me with the comment... 'Your title... um office manager, that's an interesting title for what you actually do here...."
You know what? I know it is. I didn't make it up, it was given to me and I was hired at my rate of pay (which is NOT extravagant) with the intent to move me into the sales dept.
But that hasn't happened and I am still doing general clerical work and answering phones... which I am great at. Everyone loves how well I screen their calls and I have a great memory for people when they come in or call and they enjoy visiting our offices because I make them feel welcome. Granted, I am not a rocket scientist but I bring a lot in the way of cheer and general helpfulness to everyone in the front offices.
I don't begrudge anyone for what they have to do with cost reductions and such... I just hate the way my stomach gets when I am in this spot. It has only happened twice in my life that I lost a job for reasons out of my control. The really crappy thing is that both times have been within about a year of eachother now.
He asked me to provide a cost analysis for something and I don't know how to do that... I guess he made his point.

I can learn anything though....
I know Matty is cringing as he reads this... he is so much better at standing up for himself.

Don't worry Darling. I will tell him everything I
can do.
On top of my own personal drama... A dear friend called Matt late last night and his wife is going in for breast cancer surgery today. It was sudden information for us and is very upsetting... I know Matt wants to be there for J but they live in NJ and it's not that easy....
So, normally I don't have so much to lay on my audience here but bear with me
Tonight the Bible Study group is supposed to go to the zoo for their Christmas light display but it is bitterly cold and with the wind chill barely breaking zero degrees so that may be out. We'll see.... Cari was bringing Hannah and I don't really see that as a good idea in this cold. Maybe we'll just get together for B-Day treats at Nette's... This is for mine & Cari's joint December B-days
My brother is taking his GF to see CATS for her B-Day! How cool is that?? I told him that was awesome!!
I'm so glad it's Friday and I'm so glad I can share it with my NoMo's

Have you all seen C-'s (momofharry) new picture!? She is stunning!

FWIW, any CEO worth his salt would want an employee who can say (confidently, not defensively): "This title was given to me and I was hired at my rate of pay with the intent to move me into the sales dept. But that hasn't happened and I am still doing general clerical work and answering phones... which I am great at. Everyone loves how well I screen their calls and I have a great memory for people when they come in or call and they enjoy visiting our offices because I make them feel welcome. I am very teachable, can learn what someone is willing to teach me, and I bring a lot in the way of cheer and general helpfulness to everyone in the front offices." Perhaps writing it ... "I thought more about our conversation the other day and hope it's helpful as you're assessing staff to learn a little more about my work here at _____." would let you off the hook emotionally, but still get the word to him, AND phrased in a way that doesn't sound like "Look, a-hole...."

What a creep of a CEO to speak that way to you. I mean, there MUST be better ways to question someone's position than to ACT "surprised" at a job description and then to spring random requests on you. Why do people in power need to be like that?! Anyway, tell me your favorite figure skater is Michelle Kwan!

OK, I wish you could edit posts because now that I've read it, it did not come out quite the way I wanted it. You are SO NOT losing your job because there is no way the CEO could be that big of an idiot.
:$
There. I think that sounds better.

What the hell is a cost analysis? And how are you supposed to know how to do it if no one has ever taught you? You CAN learn anything, and I'm sure you are such a blessing to that office, and if you lose your job- that new CEO is a complete idiot.

Yep work stress stinks. My dad, who owned his own business, used to make a point of actually answering the company phones for one or two hours a week. He said that way he could really see what was going on inthe organization.
Hang in there. Judy

This
:nono5: is for your CEO. Tell him it's from me. ....When my dad's business got busy enough to need a receptionist, he was sure to spend good money on the position. He honestly believed that you had to have the right person in the front office. He didn't want them working on other projects and going to the copier. He paid them to sit there, screen calls, remember cleints' names and read a magazine if it was slow. He did draw the line at doing nails. (That was smelly.) If this CEO had half a brain, he would agree with my dad, let you do what you do well and STFU. I hope he realizes what he has in you.
