Wednesday, Sep 2 2009 - Doing something meaningful...
View BECKAMARIE's food & exercise for this day
So I was talking to my boss (the one who lost the grandson to SIDS in late July) and he mentioned that they were setting up a foundation for SIDs research in Baby Will's name. He briefly said something about Lisa and I putting a race together and then kaboom! It just exploded!
I am so excited! In 2 days with a co-worker's unending help, we have almost secured a downtown track with a 1.55 mile loop, restroom facilities, riverfront, landmark filled and mostly bike trail- so very little road exposure. We have verbal commitments for packet pick up at a local running store, on-line registration support, and maybe website and t-shirt donations!
It is one year away to be run on the anniversary of Will's death and we have time to do this right. We were told to fully expect at least 1,000 participants.
I am so excited to help organize this and our boss is so happy that he almost cried. It will be a very friendly 5K and with the 2 hr time opening and the loop being easier for people to feel comfortable doing (in case 1 loop is enough for them) I think we will draw a great crowd.
This will be a daunting task but our co-worker has organized several trail races and he is a godsend.
Oh - 65 days to go!!
