So I want to thank you all for your support on the quiting smoking. Its real important to me to acctualy stop. I do have to say I have been doing fairly well although I think that in that statemnt I am lieing to myself. About doing well that is. I have had about 3 today....to my normal 8-10. But I almost feel like a failure because I am not going cold turkey. Is it better to cold cut turkey or slow cook turkey?
My interview could not have gone better! I got the job but I told him that I needed to think about it for a few days and make sure my $$$ numbers were worth being away from my children so much. Of corse there priceless but a family has to do that they must to make it. You all know about my spending habits...Although that has cooled quite a bit. It was just to exciting to look and feel so good in new clothes.
Anyhow, I called him back today and told him that I was intrested in the position but asked him if that salary was negotiable. Its not bad for starters in a new company but I truly feel like my knowledge is worth more that he is offering. He told me during the interview that he has had a hard time getting people in who knew sales and had to spend so much time training and they all only wanted part time. I am fully trained and available. That should be worth something to him. So, after I asked him about being negotiable he paused for a LONG time...talk about uncomfortable. I kept telling myself if I talk during this pause, then I loose. So after a good 20 seconds he said "probly not, but I'll look into it for you". I continued as if the 4 million year long pause never happend and said "ok well I look forward to talking to you soon"! I'm in sales...even if he is pissed I asked for more, he should look at it as a sign of strength to ask for what you want and know how to approch it. If he calls me back and says no, then I will simply say "can't hurt to ask" and accept the job. If he calls back with more I will thank them and assure them I am worth it! I have to say it feels good to be in the drivers seat when looking for a job.
I have been seeing the chyropracter now for 2 visits after he got my M.R.I. results and he seems to really be doing some good this time! I am starting to feel better and he is confadent that he can get the disk back where it belongs and get the swelling to go down so it will not hurt anymore. That is hard to imagion at this point!
Where is the spell check on this site??? ARG

On smoking: I quit cold turkey when I had a very bad cold. I found myself waiting for my lungs to clear enough so I could smoke. (???) So I decided it was crazy. My advice is to use the cold you have to get it done! Good job with your interview...you sound like my daughter when she was interviewing and asked for more $$! LOL What can it hurt? was her thinking. I'm of a different era.

Bonnie: I don't know how much you need this job being offered but I think they were rather eager to contact you and try to hurry up your hiring. If you have other interviews just tell him that you want to consider his offer while you talk to other interested employers. He does not need to know who that is your business not his. But if you really need this job then don't listen to me. Listen to your heart and whatr you are thinking. Afterall, who knows best about you --YOU!
:laugh5:
:laugh5: I like to laugh at myself too

Further, if they give you what you want - you don't have to assure them of your qualifications. Just show them by your performance. The less they know about how you think and behave the better for you in the long run. This is an employer your talking with not a close friend!
I talk way too much. sorry
BTW cold turkey isn't for everybody. Each person has their own clock and needs. I do know hoever that once I quit smoking the wheezing went away and so did the frequent respiratory infections. To this day if i picked up a cigarette and smoked it I would probably be hooked again, even though I hate the smell of smoke now.
I will picture a nude audience -- that's ugly -- a bunch of nude seniors all gathered in a hall listening to me or yawning. Thanks for the humor -- that's a riot
Good luck
P.S. As someone who worked in HR for almost 40 years, i think the silent treatment was definitely a ploy on his behalf to see if you would take the offer. Learn to be more comfortable with the pause, my Son when in interviewed for summer jobs in college used to pause when the employer offered a certain amount and when they interpreted his pause as hesitancy to take the job , they offered more.
