New Year's Eve

Monday, December 31st 2007

Legoland was fun again this year. It's the only place for miles where parents of small children can go to have a new year's family celebration at kid-friendly hours. My 2 1/2 year old still gets scared by the fireworks. He was fine with the smaller crackly ones - and was even immitating them, but the loud, thundering booms really made his skin crawl.

Foodwise - today was a wash. Wife and son split a hot-buttered popcorn at Legoland, but I held off - preferring to wait for a trip to panda ex...

Calculating Your Daily Burn

Sunday, December 30th 2007

I received a question about the devices I use to calculate my daily calorie needs.

The Polar F55 has a new model for 2008 that retails for about $199. I was able to buy a new one on ebay for about $160 (including shipping). Be sure to look for "2008" if you buy through ebay - many people are selling the 2007 for the same price!

I decided to rewrite this blog entry because the original was a bit whiny ;)

I've had bronchitis for a few days now - doctor put me on antibiotics and said "no cardio". I'm hoping that once the antibiotics are done, I'll be ready to get back to the gym.

I STILL can't work out?!?

Wednesday, December 26th 2007

AGH! This is driving me nuts. Every day I go to the gym; and every day I sweat on the cardio machines watching people work out on the floor below. I've been listening to more of Tom Venuto's interviews where he talks about the importance of weight training. Most recently I listened to his training techniques for bodybuilding. He talks about the importance of squats and dead lifts for mass building... but I can do none of that right now.

I had hernia surgery on 11/5. I had hoped to hear that...

Surviving the holidays

Tuesday, December 25th 2007

This has been a very interesting holiday in terms of diet. My wife bought three boxes of Candy Cane Joe-Joe's, which are essentially peppermint oreos from Trader Joe's... and I wasn't interested in them in the slightest.

My foods were a bit off schedule yesterday and, thanks to a bit of a cold in my chest, I thought I should skip cardio. Big mistake. My cold wasn't that bad, but sticking to a calorie intake level at 30% below maintenance is tough to do when you don't burn 300-600 calories a...
