View BRIENMALONE's food & exercise for this day
[9:30am] So... Low carbs = Low energy and low motivation. Man... I've been trying to figure out why I've been so edgy and couldn't keep it together for my morning workout. When I checked my food journal it wasn't hard to spot.
Friday
I wrapped up an excellent high calorie day with fantastic ratios:
15% fat, 35% protein and 50% carbs.
That is dead on target for my plan.
Saturday
I powered through 850 calories of cardio thanks to the rest and balanced intake on Friday. Excellent! But then I ate differently during the day. Instead of my usual fruit and cottage cheese snack, I had a high fat, high protein, higher than normal calorie dish. By the end of the day, my calories were good, but my ratios were a mess.
27% fat, 32% protein, 41% carbs (uh oh... very low carbs)
Sunday
I ran out of steam during my workout - making it just over half way. My food timing AND ratios were off, even though my calories were on target. I had a pretty short fuse, too. It's amazing what a difference 10% makes... and it got worse as the day went on because I kept (unintentionally) avoiding carbs. Major grump!
36(!)% fat, 28% protein, 36(!)% carbs (WHOA... Extremely low carbs and WAY too high on fat)
Monday
In spite of a good night's sleep, the workout this morning sucked on toast. I had the elliptical at two notches below my usual resistance level and I still only made it 30 minutes. Total for the day: 350 calories. When I dropped off the elliptical, I shook my head wondering what the heck was going on. I needed to review my foods.
Reflection... and Correction
Now that I've had a moment to reflect, I see the mess that I made of my foods and what a HUGE difference low-carb, high fat makes in my mood and motivation. Thanks to the glycogen depletion, my muscles are shriveled today, too. Yeesh. I had my usual high protein, high fat breakfast and followed it up with 1 full cup of raw oatmeal (no fruit, no sugar - just plain oatmeal) I may leave the tuna out of my lunch today and just have soup and potatoes.
I've got a school project due tonight, so I may not get a chance to add to my burn for today. Tomorrow is a high calorie day, but I may do my cardio anyway. (While I prefer real food, it's easy enough to make up the calories with a protein shake)

A perfect example why it is important to log what you eat each day. That is remarkable how low carbs made that much of a difference.Goes to show you that carbs are feel good foods.
