So, I'm 36 today. Is it weird to LIKE getting older? I've wanted to be "grown up" since I was 6... Why? because you can go anywhere you want to go, and you can buy whatever you want to buy. Well... at least that's what 6 year old Brien thought.

I like 36 because I have a handle on how the world works and where I fit. I've achieved a level of professional success... I'm comfortable in my own skin. I'm happily married. I know what I want out of life and I know how to get it. At 26, I was on my way, but still trying to get all of that sorted out. (Oh - and I still have time to look really hot - if I get back on track *laugh*)

I like getting older, but I hate people making a big deal over my b'day... I really don't want presents because I have enough "stuff". What I really like are hand written cards with personal notes inside. If you really want to show you care, slow your life down for 20 minutes and give people a piece of who you are.

My wife did that for me this morning. She sang happy birthday in her fantastically atonal way *laugh*. My sleepy son asked why mom was singing. When she told him that it was dad's birthday, he said, "No! It's MYYY birthday." We tried to explain that his birthday is in a few weeks and he would have none of it. (Apparently it was his birthday today because he wanted a new toy. *laugh*)

Tonight, my wonderful wife will cook my favorite dinner (meatloaf, mashed potatoes and peas), we'll have yellow cake with cream cheese frosting (and sprinkles)... and we may drive down to the coast to watch the sun set (if there is time).

I didn't make it to the gym this morning because I was up late again... (I was copying files to my stupid player and it took longer than I expected *laugh* - win one, lose one.) I'll try again tomorrow!
