Monday, Jul 14 2008 - Strepping for fun and profit
View BRIENMALONE's food & exercise for this day
I wish someone had warned me that pre-school was a flea market for diseases. My little boy and I picked up strep from his school a week and a half ago. It was the oddest thing. I was at work when suddenly something felt wrong. I drove home and within a few minutes was shivering beneath the covers with a 105 degree fever. My wife surprised me when she showed up an hour later with our poor little boy who was doing the same thing.
Colin started antibiotics right away and was back on his feet in 5 days. I, on the other hand, was not responding to the antibiotics. 7 days later I still had a 105 degree fever. My doctor swapped my prescription to "augmentin" and two days later the fever was gone.
The weird thing about this round of strep is that my throat never hurt. In fact, except for the debilitating fever, NOTHING hurt. Weird.
On the up side, I lost 5 lbs during the week I was sick... I wish it were the result of doing something positive with my diet or exercise...
Rhythm
The weird thing about being sick so long is that it throws you off your rhythm. In this case, I broke my cycle of eating junk in the evenings. On the down side, I haven't been to the gym in a few weeks now and I started eating fast food because we didn't have anything in the house.
Oh well... I'll get it all sorted out.

We put our daughter in pre-k a few years back and we were told by other people that she'd get sick a lot from being around other kids, and she never did. She saved it all up for kindergarten and first grade. And now, summer camp.
:bang: She had strepp and never had the usual symptoms, but our pediatrician's office tests automatically anyway and she had it about a year ago. She developed a fever yesterday after having a slight cough for the past few days and is now on azithrimyacin with "a slight case of pneumonia". Every summer and every winter, she gets one bad bout of something from another kid. Glad to hear you're feeling better.

Strep has many forms, you can also have bouts of vomitting with it. It is very strange. Glad you are felling better.

So sorry you were so sick! I lost at least 5 pounds when I had pneumonia and was not hungry at all afterwards. Too bad it did not last.
:) But it was no fun being sick! And I know it was not for you either. Take care! <3 Eliza
I became hungry again!
