The worst words ever spoken: I'm taking a break from my diet during vacation. *laugh*

Rich Burnout
I've been in Nashville for the past week visiting family. The moment we stepped into the airport I decided that my diet was going on a shelf. Nashville has some amazing restaurants (so much better than San Diego) and I didn't want to miss out on a thing.

We ate out for almost every meal... and not just Mc Donalds. We usually only had room for two meals a day because we'd eat Cracker Barrel for breakfast and follow with dinner at upscale sit-down restaurants. The itinerary included Nero's Grill (twice), Merchant's Restaurant, and Dalt's... then we ate at the Rainforest Cafe for fun, and wrapped up the tour with an old favorite: Macaroni Grille. Mom treated us to Corky's Barbecue (amazing!) and we filled what few gaps there were with PBJs, milk and fruit in the hotel room.

We ate so much rich food that something strange happened to me. By day 4, the though of eating another meal with pasta, steak, chicken, mashed potatoes and/or cream sauce made me ill. It's as if I reached complete self-indulgent dining burnout!

When we arrived home, we decided to have one last 'bad' meal, so we ordered pizza. I could only eat two slices before I put it away. My body WANTS healthy food.

The Tally
I didn't weigh myself before we left, but I think I was around 235 or so. When I weighed in this morning I was 239. Not surprising. Wife said she didn't gain or lose on the trip... I'm not surprised. She's one of those lucky self-regulating types.

The Question
All I can think about right now is eating good, healthy meals. So... the question in my mind: When you give in to cravings, is it good to go overboard until you make yourself sick of the stuff you crave?

I'm pretty sure the answer is 'no', but I'd love to hear the thoughts of others out there.

Hi Friend! Sorry to be a stranger... hope fam. is well! Daisy started Kinder last week.... whoa!!!!!
So sad :( Dream Dinners is closed :(

Speaking of cravings... ya make yourself sick of it. I did that with chocolate chip cookies. I made a homemade batch up of Nestle Tollhouse and put it in a tupperware container in the freezer. Every night I made a big fat cookie and ate it after the kids went to bed. I went through two tupperware containers... and ended up throwing out the last bit of the second. I just didn't want it anymore. So that seemed to work for me... no promises... but hey. Give it a shot... if it works... Yay!

I would have to go overboard for so long that by the time I actually felt sick of the stuff they would need to airlift me out of my house to have the fibers of my couch ungrafted from my bum! :bigeyes3: Seriously. I don't get sick of the stuff I crave. Once I like something, it's full bore ahead 'til the bitter end.

For me, going overboard on a craving has almost always resolved the craving for good. I can distinctly remember when I consciously realized overdoing might be a good thing. It was such a revelation that when I did have a craving and felt that I wanted to control it, I didn't try to limit myself. Works, for the most part, for me.

Well, you know what Brien!?!? Just re-start what you've started! No biggie! It's all good! When I have spells off my program my "ah, ha" moment is when I FINALLY have ONE DAY where I feel spot on ... then I roll w/it! When I give into my cravings I either do two things ... 1). Go on binge (that usually can last anywhere from one day to a few weeks - UGH!) or 2). Start fresh the very next day!

Glad to see you're back!
