Polar F55 Features and Fixes

Monday, February 4th 2008

So THAT'S 650 Calories of cardio. Jeez. I haven't had much luck tuning my Polar F55, so I did my elliptical work yesterday afternoon using the calculated burn amounts based on steps per minute, weight and difficulty level.

Longer ... and Much More Difficult
Kind of interesting - I was on the machine for 53 minutes instead of my usual forty something. According to my watch, I burned 775 calories, but the calculations (and the elliptical machine, by the way) said I burned 650. As best I ...

What to Believe

Sunday, February 3rd 2008

So, today I weigh 3 lbs lighter than yesterday. Three friggin pounds on the day AFTER my official weigh-in day. But here is the dilemma: the weigh-in yesterday showed a 0.1% fat loss (26.1%), but today shows my body fat percentage UP by 1% (27.2%) and registers a lean mass loss of 4 lbs and a fat gain of 2 lbs. *laugh*. Learned Another Lesson Today

Saturday, February 2nd 2008

Soooo... Looks like my Polar watch "calories burned" is a little too generous. I kind of suspected this, but after this past week, there is no question.

Looking at the chart, the...

Seven in a Row!

Friday, February 1st 2008

[10:30am] Woohoo! Seven days of cardio in a row! My net calorie intake is still right on target, too! I just need to imrpove consistency with the number of calories I burn doing cardio.

Countdown to Weight Training
Feb 5 marks the 3 month point since my hernia surgery. That is the minimum amount of time my doctor recommended I wait before weight training. I'm planning to actually start on Feb 9 because that is the start of my training week and I want to see if there is a noticable diffe...

Creating a Good Plan

Thursday, January 31st 2008

I tend to repeat things in my blog to keep good messages in focus. The more I talk about the "plan" the less likely I am to deviate from it. SO... with that in mind...

The Plan
Burn 650 calories per day on low calorie days (rest optional on high calorie days)
Net 1850 calories on low days and 2500 on high days.
Aim for macronutrient ratios of: 15-20% fat, 25-30% protein, and 50-55% carbs
Eat as many whole foods as possible - prefereably lean, nutrient and fiber dense foo...
