Monday, Jul 4 2011 - Independence Day -- independence from emotional eating, that is
View CALORIEHOLIC's food & exercise for this day
Happy 4th of July!
Had several successes today. Had already carefully budgeted my calories, fat grams, sugar grams, etc. to allow for one planned indulgence at the ballpark -- a soft pretzel, no sauce. The game was from 1-5, so I planned to eat lunch before going to the ballpark (I had to leave at 11h15 to get there on time) and then have my beloved pretzel around 2 so I wouldn't be starving by the time I got home (dinner was just me at home).
My healthy bfast went as planned, and then I made it to the grocery and back to stock up on healthy staples for the coming week. Then, however, I rcvd a potentially upsetting phone call. Although the call made me both angry and sad, I didn't let it affect me food-wise. I ate my healthy lunch as planned and then headed to the ballpark. Unbeknownst to me, however, my friend had planned on our eating lunch together at the ballpark. (Naturally, he is a tall skinny guy with no cholesterol issues.) He begged me to eat something with him so he wouldn't feel uncomfortable eating alone.
In the past I would have caved -- so many items smelled delicious, and I'm both a social (ballpark!) and emotional (upsetting phone call!) eater. Today, however, I was armed with both a full and satisfied stomach from my delicious lunch and a plan for an indulgence later in the game. I stood my ground and waited until 2 for my pretzel, enjoying every bite. My friend even commented that he didn't know how I could sit there holding a pretzel from 12h30 until 2 without eating any of it. Heck, in the old days I wouldn't have been able to do that!
We got home later than expected (extra innings), by which time I was too hot and sweaty and tired to make the healthy dinner I had planned to cook, but again I didn't let things overcome me -- I found a quick and healthy non-cooking alternative, readjusted my CK entries to make sure I wouldn't exceed any maximum targets, and had a lovely dinner after my nice cold shower.
SO much better than filling myself with unhealthy, unsatisfying food at the ballpark and then making myself a cocktail when I got home because I was still upset about the phone call.
Happy Independence Day, indeed.
