Wednesday, Jul 20 2011 - Wow, this conscious choice thing really works!
View CALORIEHOLIC's food & exercise for this day
Kept my coach's words in mind all day today as I chose to go to the gym, chose to stick to my eating plan, chose to plan ahead for tomorrow, etc. Every time I was tempted to veer off track, I asked myself which option would propel me closer to my goals. That minor action really gave me clarity as to what I wanted to do, not just what I "should" do, an approach which (obviously, or I wouldn't be here) never worked for me.
Meanwhile, a question for anyone reading my blog. Now that I'm exercising more, I find that I often have extra calories that I should be consuming in order to meet my absolute minimum as determined by my nutritionist after conducting various metabolism tests. I do not, however, have room for extra fat or sugar. Any brilliant ideas for foods I can eat as snacks or side dishes that are high in protein and/or carbs but NOT loaded with fat and/or sugar? (Obviously veggies would work, and I eat lots of them, but they don't have enough calories to get me close enough to my minimum calorie target on their own.) So far all I've come up with is chicken or turkey breast, tuna, fat-free microwave popcorn, fat-free yogurt, and beans. Any other good ideas out there? I know CKers are full of great suggestions!

I know they're processed food but Zone bars balance carbs, protein and fat. Not sure if that would work for you or not.
