Monday, Jul 25 2011 - Skipping Your Cake and Eating, Too
View CALORIEHOLIC's food & exercise for this day
Two things on my mind today:
(1) Was in charge of bringing cupcakes or cake for a colleague's bday. He had requested extra dark chocolate, a real temptation for me. I bought (not made -- I didn't want leftovers or batter in my apartment) one piece of cake (my grocery store sells them individually) for each colleague and then brought a dark chocolate coconut Kashi TLC bar for myself with some fresh cut strawberries. When people asked why I wasn't eating any cake, I lied and told them I don't actually like cake. Since I was the one who brought it, no one pushed me -- I wasn't rejecting anyone else's offering. I savored every bit of my Kashi TLC bar, but not nearly as much as I savored my victory over temptation.
(2) Invented a DELICIOUS sandwich at lunch today. A wrap (I like Flatout Lights because they're so low in calories and so high in fiber) with roasted red pepper hummus, crumbled feta cheese, and baby spinach. I knew it would be good, since I love all of those ingredients on their own, but I had no idea at all how insanely amazing they would taste together. I'm making the same thing again for tomorrow's lunch.
It's past my bedtime and I still haven't packed for a last-minute trip tomorrow, so I need to sign off -- I can read blogs and respond to comments when I return on Wednesday. My goal for the trip? Enjoy one or two cocktails in NYC with friends without losing all control and/or focus. I plan to bring healthy snacks for the train and to maintain my focus on conscious choice-making when eating out, but I also do want to allow myself the planned cocktail indulgence. The walking should help balance out the calories...unless it's too hot to walk there. It sure is here!

Wait a minute, I am reading your blogs out of order and I take it back, scrap the cottage cheese, I have all the ingredients for the delicious wrap. YES! Thanks for the "recipe".

What a smart idea--bringing just enough cake for everyone but you.
