View CELAWLOR's food & exercise for this day

Got bunches and oodles and tons of stuff done today. :y:

I remember several years ago, I was working with one of my clients whose growing business was going through some financial difficulties. Their credit was fully extended, they had a huge house with a huge yard in the expensive part of town and they sent their children to a private Christian school. We were discussing ways to lower their expenses and I had mentioned that maybe she should put her children in public school (as they lived in the BEST and WEALTHIEST school district in the whole metro area). She said that it wasn't option and we carried on.

I never understood that position until yesterday. I would rather drive a ratty car, live in a dinky house, and shop at second-hand stores rather than take my son out of private school. Especially the one he is in now. I am big-time impressed and my son absolutely CANNOT WAIT to go to school. He is practically beside himself and driving me crazy. :) He has been bugging me four or five times a day for an entire week to get his patches put on his uniforms. I finally was able to get it done today and he was just beeming with happiness/pride/excitement. You simply cannot put a price tag on that.

This is a boy who hated school two years ago and was doing very poorly. Now he is literally years above his public-school peers and enjoying every day of school. We went to orientation yesterday and I was just completely impressed. I knew this school didn't have much of a sports program, but what I didn't know is that it is very well-known for it's fine arts program and has a fine arts conservatory.

We got the curriculum yesterday from the teacher and they are going to begin studying classic literature, learning about poetry, and doing orthography drills--in the 3rd grade! My husband and I were almost as excited as my son was. They also start learning Latin in the 4th grade (but start out with Spanish in kindergarten). I seriously wish I had learned Latin when I was younger. I still think I will someday. Maybe I can learn it with my son.

Anyway, enough about all that. I have some yard work that is calling my name. Better get to it.
