So I am not one who usually goes around bashing the government and media in a public forum, but I just *have* to throw this out there.
My kiddo was diagnosed with the swine flu on Monday. They don't usually test for the actual swine flu strain, but since I am pregnant, they did, so I can say with 100% certainty that he has it. Aside from the crazy fever, this HAS to be the mildest flu I have EVER SEEN IN MY LIFE!!!!! And, my child has risk factors such as asthma and propensity to develop pneumonia at the drop of a hat. My boy is fine. He felt bad but there was no congestion, cough, runny nose, stomach issues, NADA! Just feeling bad and a high fever.
Shame on the government and the media for scaring people half to death. Absolutely EVERY person that I have heard of having this flu says it was mild. Sure, people die from the flu every year, but this flu is no worse than any other. The media and government need to remember what happened to the boy who cried wolf.
And that is all I have to say before I really go off the deep end.

Our experience has been that it is fast, and fairly mild, but when it isn't, it just isn't, and kids are the ones that it can be most lethal for, so the problem is this: how to tell which kids are going to die?

I'm pretty sure (and so was my doc) that I had H1N1 earlier this month. No biggie, really and I was completely over even the residual symptoms in a week. The worst it got was a 102 fever and a sore throat. I felt kinda bad and slept a lot for a day or two. And I have mucho complicating health factors.
