View CELAWLOR's food & exercise for this day

Not sure how many times I have started to write something here over the past few months. I get started and then get distracted by something else or just can't follow through for whatever reason. I can't believe I will be coming up my one year anniversary with my job in a few weeks! AND, my little man is quickly approaching his first birthday!!! :bigeyes3: My, how time flies.

We closed on our house back in March and it has been an absolute whirlwind of activity in my life since...like it wasn't already like that, anyway. Too much stress, not enough down time, and no balanced meals or exercise. That is a really bad combination and my husband and I got really mean to each other a few weeks ago. That has never happened before so we put the breaks on and had a 90 minute date (that's all we could squeeze out). We had some really hard things to put on the table, but we worked through as much as we possibly could in that short amount of time. We're both committed to our relationship and family, so that is a good place to be, despite the challenges and stress of our current life. We both know we don't have enough time for ourselves, for each other, and to take care of everything else but know we will get back there sometime in the next twelve months.

Work has been amazing, challenging, stressful, crazy and everything in between. I have never been so challenged in my life, nor worked so hard. 45 - 50 hour weeks are normal and that has been an adjustment. I got my first performance review and got a 4% raise, even though I hadn't even been with the company a year...and on maternity leave for eight weeks last year. My manager told me it was "only" 4% because I didn't have enough time on the job and to not take it as bad thing/insult. LOL I was beyond thrilled. I am just as happy with my job as they are with my work. :thumbu2: It's a perfect fit.

Glad you popped in, Cindy. Congrats on the raise! I'd take 4%in a heartbeat, too. :)

Being married with little kids after having an only child for a good number of years is a serious bitch. It's very hard to make time for yourself, individually, and as a couple. I'm glad you two talked and were able to reach common ground.

Personally, I'm really thankful for having found poker as a Friday night date things for us. Once the kids are down for the night, we pull out the cards & chips, pour a glass of wine or crack open a beer, pump up the jams (or whatever the cool kids call it these days) and play for a few hours. Yeah, we stay up too late, and that sucks Saturday mornings, but it's a time to laugh and enjoy alone time without the pressure of going out and thinking "We *must* have a good time tonight." We keep a running score on the calendar and somebody suggested there be a prize or something for being the monthly winner.
