View CWCEBMEY's food & exercise for this day
Well, now that I back from China, I've had a day to rest, I am going to workout tonight at the gym and get back into business. This morning I stepped on the scale and I'm back to my same weight that I was before I left. So I guess I did not gain 2 pounds. It was probably all in my swollen ankles.
The trip was great. Every meal I ate was Chinese food, with the exeption of one (McDonalds). I ate very differently while I was in China. . . . and you know what. . . . I felt really good. My sugars were really good. I was not hungry and I was never over stuffed.
For breakfast, I had cabbage, a hard boiled egg, bacon, eggs rolls, either watermelon or pineapple and tea to drink. Some mornings, I skipped the egg. Then for lunch, it was always different, but it was mostly vegetables with some meat and not a lot of rice. Dinner was the same. What I was missing from my regular American diet was starch. I ate very little rice (because it wasn't always served). And no bread (because that wasn't available either). About the only starchy thing that I did eat was a dish that was made with corn and fish. All the vegetables were cooked with oil. My portions were limited because in China, you do not get a big plate and fill it up and then eat. The food is served in serving dishes. You get a small plate (like a saucer) and then you take your chop sticks, grab a bite of food, rebalance on that small plate and put the food in your mouth.
I'm going to try to avoid starch and see how things go. I say try because when I came back, I noticed all of my foods that I love are starchy. If I'm hungry, I want pasta, crackers, bread, potatoes or rice. But when I was in China, I did not miss or crave those things. I will just have to have more selections of other things in my home.

Hi there! I was in China just a few months ago (Oct) to adopt my daughter. It is a wonderful trip and I, too, enjoyed the style of eating that is prevalent all throughout China. We had many "family style" meals and/or buffets - but you are right - not as much starch as we focus on here in the US. The food was AWESOME! As for the McDonald's - don't know if you noticed this or not, but their chicken sandwiches are all made with dark meat - very odd when you are expecting white! I'm sure we did many of the same things in Beijing!!
