Friday, Jun 8 2007 - So How Much Does a Wedding Cost These Days?

View CWCEBMEY's food & exercise for this day

My daughter is getting married. She is almost 23 years old. She's excited, I'm not. It isn't her fiance, he a great guy. I'm just not a party planner. I really didn't even plan my own wedding. My mom did most of it.

Wednesday night, I worked much later than I expected and got home close to 7:00. I was tired and very hungry. Christine and her fiance were there, ready to talk wedding plans. We decided to go to Marie Callenders. At first, I thought, they have their light fare menu. . . but as luck would have it, they have done away with that part of their menu. So Christine and I split the Chicken Pot Pie.

After dinner, my daughter wanted to share what she had found out about different places to have a wedding. She wants to get married at some place called the Heritage. They want you to spend a minimum of $7500. They offer their facility, a chapel, catering, photography, flowers, table linens and decorations. But $7,500 at a minimum. The only services they do not offer is the wedding dress, brides maids gifts, and invitations. So by my calculations, this may cost $10,000!

She wants a church wedding, but doesn't want the reception in the church hall. My only hope is that the priest will say he can only marry them in the church and not at the chapel of this place. But even then, she may still want to have the reception there.

Thank goodness her fiance picked up the tab at dinner. I'm going to have to start saving big time.

Thank you both for your comments. My daughter and I went out to TheKnot.com and it was a great beginning. I've also offered my daughter 50% of what she does not spend over her budget. My husband wanted to do 10%, but $100 for every $1000 saved is not much of a motivator. They already have a mortgage, but the extra cash will help with the honeymoon. Thanks again!

Whoa Boy! and the rock begins to roll. Offer them 10k for a house downpayment and elope. My oldest son married a girl that spent about 60k. The dress alone was 6grand. They were divorced in 9 months. She ran off with the mail boy at her office while my son was off at IBM training school.

I can relate.....my youngest (21) will be engaged this summer and married summer 2008..........her boyfriend plans on asking my husband for her hand later this month.
And she wants to get married in the town where she goes to college which I understand but makes planning more difficult for me and attending more difficult for family and friends. Check out TheKnot.com if you havn't yet.....lots of helpful info. Good Luck.
