I'm going to do it! I found a 5k in Springfield - where my brothers go to school - and its for the American Red Cross and I'm going to do it! Friday (pay day) I'm going to send in my registration then. I'm excited...and nervous! I mean, technically I haven't signed up yet, but I'm determined. I can do it! By June, I should be in the 200s (as long as I stay focused) so by then I can definitely have myself trained to run the entire 5k. My biggest goal is going to be for me to be able to run the entire race. No walking for me. I CAN DO THIS!! This is definitely something to look forward to. Now, my new question is: should I train outside or on a treadmill? I don't know the a thing about running outside and I don't think there's a track around campus (except in the basketball court, which doesn't count) so I may have to ask some runners what are good 3mile paths. I can't believe my crazy ass is going to pay to run! This is awesome! :rock1:

Today's been fairly uneventful. Just the usual class. I had my Spanish test and I think it went well. Other than that, I have my bi-weekly meeting with my supervisor today at 4. I'm going to try to work out today, as I've been taking a few days off, hoping that my knee will feel better. Well, it hasn't felt better so I'm going to see if maybe working out will make it feel a little better. Usually it doesn't hurt while I'm working out, it's before that gets me. And it's not really my knee that hurts, but its the back of my knee. We'll see though. Then tonight I'm on duty, so hopefully that is uneventful and the rest of the duty team isn't bojanglin so we can just get it over with.

I mentioned this last night, but hopefully more people will read this and be able to give me advice.

I have really been considering signing up for a 5K. I have always wanted to push myself to run a 5K since the first time I lost the weight. The thing is that 1)i'm nervous because i dont really know the course of action for signing up for a 5k, 2) i feel like im too fat to run a 5k, 3)the part of me that says that i will inevitably fail at this says I shouldn't sign up because - if/when i get fat again, i'll be too ashamed to do it and then waste my money. I think that if I signed up for it that it would motivate me to keep going and I really want to, I just don't know how. I've been thinking about doing the Couch to 5K, but I think I'm more advanced and I don't want to start at week 1 (i can already jog for 10minutes straight) so I don't know. Any thoughts?!?!

Anywho, I should probably get ready to go. Hope everyone's day is lovely!! :heart2:

Oh, and IMO, the more running you do outside, the better :y: Sometimes - because of weather or light - the treadmill is a good idea, but outside is MUCH better, on so many levels :)

Start at a different week for the Couch to 5K. You're right that you shouldn't start at the beginning, and if you wlak/run the entire race, who cares? I understand your fears (I wrote the same things about my own blog before I did a race), but you will find that it is not nearly as scary as you think it is. Besides, what do you have to lose? Doing a race is an amazing experience, and you'll be surprised by how many people out there were just as terrified to sign up. You can totally do it! :y:

Definately sign up for the race! There are all kinds of people at those races and it's very casual. It's also a really great goal to shoot for when losing weight gets kinda boring for lack of a better word. I'm doing the C25K program right now and like you I was too advanced for a week 1 start. I suggest starting at like week 4 - even though you can already run a bit further. The intervals are good and you can build up slowly so you don't injure yourself. Last time I tried to do too much too soon and ended up with heel problems. So in answer to your question: GO FOR IT GIRL! :thumbu2:

Thought? SIGN UP FOR A 5K! Most 5Ks are pretty casual and have people finishing in all times from 14 minutes to an hour. To address your concerns: (1) check www.active.com -- put in your zip code and you get races in your area, can usually register online; (2) people of ALL SIZES run races; (3) you usually get a tshirt, and you can't wear that tshirt until you've finished the face :y: AND you won't fail!

Have your tried the Couch to 5K running plan from Coolrunning.com? That's what I did, and so did many other CK members. It starts you out SLOW, and builds up to a 5K at just the right pace. If you can run for 10 minutes, you are ahead of the game. Go for it! :thumbu2:
