So let me vent something that has been on my heart lately. Anyone who
knows knows me knows that I am a celebrity
fanatic. Everyday, I am on tmz.com, dlisted.com, and perezhilton.com just getting the "scoop". Now i love my celebrity gossip as much as the next person likes apple pie, but lately I've just been so AGGRAVATED by "celebrities" these days. On VH1, they have these shows about how Celebrities use their money for all of these huge, over-the-top extravagant things like cars, vacations, houses, and other frivalous (sic) goods. Then, MTV had a cribs countdown for the priciest home where people had removable ceilings, ten cars, gold-plated toilet seats, and other non-necessities. After watching all this flashiness pretty much being thrown in my face I just got really pissed off. I don't doubt that these celebrities work hard to have ten million dollar houses, but I have a real problem that all of these entertainers are making
MILLIONS of dollars and using this money on stupid, expensive stuff simply for the sake of displaying this opulent over-the-top lifestyle.
Moreover, there are people in our society who are real role models - teachers, coaches, mothers, sisters- who go about their daily lives humbly and without financial or social affirmation and are just good people and struggle daily. It pisses me off to see people like my mother who work two jobs, go to school, is in the church choir and is virtually loved by EVERYBODY have to struggle to make ends meet. There are people like my friend who struggles to pay for school because her parents just can't afford it and can barely get through each quarter of school without knowing if she'll have the money and is just trying to be a good role model to her younger siblings as a first generation college student and can't afford to get her teeth fixed or get insurance so she can have improved self-esteem and a better chance at being successful in this life. I'm not saying that the rich shouldn't be allowed to be rich, I'm just saying that there are so many "average" people out here who work hard and fight daily without being noticed who deserve a break.
I was watching Dr. Phil and this lady had previously been on the show because she was verbally and physically abusive to her children. She came back for a follow up to say she stopped beating them, and what does Dr. Phil do?
He gives her family a trip to Disney World. Since when did being a reformed child abuser warrant a trip to Disney World?! What about those parents living in the inner city who shower their children with love daily and inspire their children to be our future leaders? Don't they deserve a trip to Disney World more? Why does Oprah feel the need to give her upper middle-class audience cars? I can't say anything about Oprah, because she gives back a lot, but why can't we give back here in
AMERICA. We want to fix everyone else's problems overseas when our own people at home have no health insurance, are a check away from being without a home, where we have to question the quality of our children's education
IS THERE NOT SOMETHING WRONG WITH THIS?!
So, through this anger I want some action. I want to start a charity, a organization, a
something kind of website where people, even if they don't get money, they can at least have some kind of acknowledgement for being wonderful human beings. I want the URL for my website to be www.bigheartslittlepockets.com. Im my mind, everyonebdeserves to be applauded when a good deed is done and being a good person and having a big heart is one of the best things we can do as humans. A life touched is a life saved. Instead of focusing on the stupidity and mediocrity of the lives and the ignorance of all of these bookoo millionaires, we should focus on those who are like us and don't need millions to make a difference. Then, I would allow people to donate money and then find a way to give good people a little something just for being a decent human being. Of course, we'd have to do some screening of the people and all the hoola so I can make sure crackheads and abusers and stuff aren't just out for a free pay out, but I just really want to do something for all the good people out there who deserve a high five or a "thanks for being so damn great".
Having said all that, I don't know the first thing about 1)starting a website, 2)starting a charity, 3)marketing, etc so if anyone who is knowledgeable in these areas can give me some ideas, a PM would be great because I really want to do this! Who knows, maybe I could be on Oprah one day promoting people to be active in it and it could be the next best thing!
Thanks for listening to my ideas. Any thoughts/criticisms would be so great!!

Denita - I LOVE this idea! I, too, get frustrated with the the wealthy making unfathomable amounts of money will the poverty level in this country continues to grow. Have you thought of starting with a myspace page? Just to get some thoughts down, have a game plan, make some friends. Myspace pages are easy to set up and customize too. Please keep us posted! Maybe eventually you can get nonprofit status and get some funding. WooHoo!

I hear ya!! I mean, I'm all for capitalism and people being able to make money, but it always puzzled me that people who play a character on film and have no education make millions, and people who are highly educated and work as nurses or social workers or fire fighters or police officers are struggling! You have a great idea.Just some recognition and a pat on the back can mean SO MUCH.

What a great idea!! Money is, after all, only something we are renting from God. Because when we die we can't take it with us, we can only leave it to someone else (or spend it all before we go
=D). And if it makes you feel any better, I read yesterday afternoon that Paris Hilton's grandfather is donating her portion of his inheritance to charity because he is sick and tired of her stupid antics and giving the Hilton family a bad name.

What an awesome idea! I completely agree, I also hate the fact that the people who are millionaires or famous in this world don't really have to pay for anything, they get free clothes from designers, free cars, etc. I have to say that Oprah gave her friends diamond earrings or some BS at a luncheon she held for them, maybe a better gift would have been a donation in their name to the charity of their choice. I watched the same VH1 show and wondered why they waste their money on these things...when there is so much more out there to spend your money on, but it's people like us who donate money to charitable organizations even though we don't have the extra cash. Your blog today echoed many of my feelings, you also put it very eloquently. Great post!

I think you have some great ideas. I would start by talking to local charities - maybe women's charities is a good place to start - and find out how they got started and what the process is. I'm sure people will be happy to speak to you about it. Plus if you work with a similar charity you may be able to help get a program started in conjunction with an already established organization that already has a bank of sponsors and name clout which might help you progress faster. I do love your ideas though - keep dreaming and planning and you can make it happen.
