View DESIRAE_NICOLE's food & exercise for this day

So - I've been working out. I've been tracking my food. Now I just need to do it over and over and over and over and over again.

I have little problem staying within calorie limits. But I am trying hard not to be frustrated about my numbers right now. I fully enjoyed the holidays, so I really need to give it 2 more weeks before I can really "see" how I am doing.

I'm against weighing myself right now. Because an unsuccessful weigh in tends to make me want to throw in the towel. I've been taping my waist, but I haven't seen any success there either.

I have, on the other hand, seen great improvements in my abilities! I am lifting weights and I'm adding to those numbers every time. I have been spending time on my tread mill and was very pleasantly surprised that when I took my running outside, I easily jogged a 1/2 mile all at once. My weight may be up, but I'm still fitting into the same clothes fine.

I don't know when I'll ever hit the 5 pound loss that CK wants of me. But, I know that by Jan 31 I WILL be jogging a mile straight. And I WILL be doing a 5k by the end of the summer. I need to be happy with that for now.

I really love your goals, and staying off the scale is probably a good thing, right now. Maybe check in once a month. Honestly, you need to see how the calorie intake is working for you -- the whole "net" calorie thing doesn't work for everyone, but you're smart not to get hung up on the numbers.

As for my run today, first let me say that almost 2 years ago (in May) I was running LESS than what you are. I couldn't run for a 1/2 mile at a time. I gradually increased my distance and ran my 1st 5k a year ago September. After I ran my first race, I was HOOKED, and THEN it became about adding speed. This past November, I ran 1/2 marathon, and I messed up my achilles (strained) -- I have backed WAY off of running since, and I am just NOW getting back to it. ALL THAT SAID, I am irritated with my lack of speed because a year ago January 31 I ran my best 5K ever, and I am about 2 full minutes off that pace. I know what my body can do. Sorry for the blog within your blog, but what I really want to say is right now, you're doing all the right things...work up gradually on your stamina/distance (keep at it with the strength training and don't forget to stretch!) -- the speed will come.

I saw your comment in Nadine's blog about not running fast and far. My theory, FWIW is to run/walk as you are able and pretty soon you'll find yourself running more than walking without noticing it. Keep up the good work! I struggle with speed too!! Big time. /// ALSO, good idea keeping off the scale!!! I weighed myself every day for years and even though I knew I'd lost; measuring by how clothes fit, the scale never really moved drastically so I gave up--bad idea--i'd probably look pretty awesome today had I never given up so many times; thank you very much scale :devil7:. I haven't weighed since December 15 and probably won't until Jan 31.
