View FACINGFORWARD's food & exercise for this day

I started Crossfit last night. I have two more "On Ramp" sessions to do, and all I can say is I'm glad I was at the gym all this time because if I wasn't, I would be in serious trouble with this thing. I didn't struggle(I mean to say, I struggled but it wasn't awful and I didn't die) with it like I saw a lot of the other women doing, but there are things that I just could not do. Pull ups for one thing and a proper push up, but I was able to knock out a couple because of the planks I have been doing. We did incline pull-ups on the rings and I just could not get the correct form. Air squats were pretty easy to master because I've been doing those at the gym anyway and the kettle ball swings were not hard because I was already doing some weight training. It ended up being a great work out. My cardio was good and I didn't feel like I was going to throw up but I WAS gasping like a fish deprived of oxygen when it was over. I need to work on concentration and coordination, pull ups and push ups. I liked the rowing machine but I had trouble coordinating the movements...I expect to get better and I'm not horribly sore today.....I'm drowning myself in water consumption and taking a 6-miler in a few minutes.

The Crossfit membership is crazy expensive so I have to drop my other gym membership which kind of sucks but I have a super nice treadmill and a not so great elliptical. I think if I just get a couple of kettle balls and a few other items I'll be good to go.

I've been slacking in the exercise department lately and doing not so great on my eating so this is kind of an ass-kick to get me motivated. School is totally kicking my ass. All I do is grade papers and do homework with my other children. The DH and I get a date night in one or twice a week and in between I'm guilting myself because I've been slacking with the food and exercise thing. (Did I mention my house is a train wreck?) My house is a train wreck and the laundry pile keeps getting bigger. The pressure is high and the struggle is real. Somewhere in between is a happy medium that I'm struggling to find.

It's life and I'm alive and kicking and if I can do that the rest will come.

Gotta go. The road is waiting.

You will do fine at Crossfit. Who knows it may spark your passion for something else!

As to getting kettlebells - be careful when you get them. If you get them from a local sporting goods store, you need to check each one individually. The "craftmanship" isn't going to be the same as if you got them from a "name" kettlebell place. The most important thing, from your perspective, is to check the underside of the handle. You want to check for a seamless seam. There shouldn't be any unevenness in the seam or non-smooth areas. If there is, there is a chance of cutting/scratching your hand when you grip it and swing. If there are no other options, the underside of the handle can be smoothed out with a Dremel.

Best to you and have fun!
