Tuesday, Aug 14 2007 - Summer Fruit and Veggies!
View GLENNBR's food & exercise for this day
My wife and I get vegetables (and melons occasionally) from a community supported agriculture group named angelic organics (www.angelicorganics.com/). They deliver bushel boxes of organic veggies throught the summer to drop-off points (one two-blocks from our house in Chicago). You pay an annual fee. Boy are they good! Especially in the later part of the summer and early fall- early on it's mainly salad greens and you really get sick of them.
We just got a recipe book from them as well and are trying out a Ginger Mellon Sorbet recipe. Havent eaten it yet but it smells amazing.
Here is the recipe for those who are interested:
Ingredients
1 Canteloupe
Juice from 1/2 a lemon
2 tbsps of fresh Ginger (grated).
1/2 c. sugar (or Splenda in our case)
Steps
1) Blend everything but the ginger to puree
2)add the ginger at the end and pulse the blender a bit
If you have an ice cream mixer (we dont):
chuck it in and follow the makers instructions
If you don't have one:
1) Pour the mixture into a zip lock bag and freeze
2) Remove it, thaw it and blend again until smooth
3) Repeat step 2 twice or until it is very smooth with no separation.
