Monday, Jan 5 2009 - Preparing for the Tallahassee Half Marathon
View JANRED45's food & exercise for this day
I registered for this site today. I am hoping that it will help me continue to reach my weight-loss and fitness goals. I started this journey on the day my twin girls were born. I weighed 266 pounds. I have lost down to 160, but have bounced back up to 167 during the holidays, and a stretch of boredom. I have re-energized my efforts by setting a lofty goal: completion of the Tallahassee Half Marathon. I have been running for the last year, my daily average is about 4 miles. I started my specific training regimin last week, so I am really cutting myself short here, but hopefully I will be ready. I ran my first long run day on Friday and finished 11 miles. I found that I was dehydrated at the end, and sore that day, but was completely recovered by the next morning. I figure this is a good sign. I did not hydrate like I should, so I have set my goals for meeting this challenge to include lots of water.
Race day, from past experience, will include water at about every two miles. This should help me successfully complete the race with frequent breaks, stretches and water along the way. I am a "slow and steady wins the race" girl. I am still doing 9.5 - 10 minute miles. I finished the 11 miles on Friday in 2 hrs. 20 mins. so I am hoping to improve my time a little on race day to maybe 2 hrs. 30 mins. or 2 hrs. 45 mins at the most.
Writing everything down should help my effort to reach 148 by summer. 19 pounds should be nothing compared to losing the 106 I have lost through healthy, active living. I have heard the last ten are a pain though! I purchased the Calorie King Counter and the Journal to carry around. Then I found this website... it is certainly encouraging to watch the numbers I can eat go down, and to subsequently watch them go up when I enter activity. It is a great asset to add to my fitness toolbox.
27 days and counting until the Half Marathon! I will be posting daily to track my progress.

Wow! You are an inspiration from 266 lbs to 160. How did you start your running regime/passion? I used to run 4 miles a day in college but I was fit... now that I'm over 200, I can barely run half a mile and then give up. I also started to get plantar fasciitis since my arch couldn't support my weight. How was your start when you were 266 lbs? What were your challenges, what made you keep going?

Good for you. You have come to the right place because there are a lot of unfit people on CK who have successfully become fit through running and lost a ton of weight on the way there. The blogs are great encouragement for you. I can't wait to read your daily blog.
