Friday, Jan 9 2009 - Survived my Last Long Run Before the 1/2 Marathon

View JANRED45's food & exercise for this day

Twelve miles today... let me say it again... TWELVE MILES TODAY!!! Unreal what you can accomplish when you set your stubborn mind to a ridiculous goal :) Completed it in 2 hours 19 minutes. Slow and steady may not win the race, but it will finish the race!!! The last mile was just awful, I am convinced that even my ears were hurting... Had to ice my knees a bit tonight, but bouncing back pretty well I think. I am still amazed that my cardio health is so good though. I finish these long runs and make a few phone calls on my way to work. I can't move, but I can breathe and chat...

I will rest tomorrow. Next weeks training will be:

Sunday - Bike Ride (50 minutes)
Monday - 4 mile run
Tuesday - 5 mile run
Wednesday - Rest
Thursday - 3 mile run
Friday - 7 mile run
Saturday - rest

I will repeat this scheduled pretty much until the race except that after next friday, I will not run any further than 4 miles tapering down to prepare for the event on February 1. I actually feel ready. I know it will hurt, I am convinced that my body was really not designed for distance... but we are doing it anyway! I keep focusing on how awesome it will feel to run when I am 148 pounds...

Then I have to focus on doing this again in the fall. The Boston Marathon (well, the Boston Georgia Mini-Marathon) is next !!

There was no way to get my caloric intake up to meet this burn today. I cannot eat that volume of healthy food, and don't need to eat calorie laden stuff just to get my calories up. Saturday has always been my cheat day for having something decadent, in moderation of course. The only bad thing, I guess is that it also happens to be my rest day from exercise.

What a great week so far. 3.5ish pounds lost. My goal when I was 266 was to lose 1 pound a week, or four per month (in case I had a bad week and needed to make up a pound). I was 159 for one day, bounced back up to 160 by the next morning, then started this program after the holidays at 167. I am patient about weight loss... I know it will stay down if I work hard and focus. I love wearing my size 8s after ditching size 18, but I am so close to a 6 that I can taste it. Here we go...

The 12 miles is commendable and very hard to do. Do you run outside or on a treadmill? Friday 7 mile run... :-) Wow.

It must have felt good to ditch the size 18 pants. Hopefully I will be able to do that soon too.
