Monday, Jan 12 2009 - Ran Out Five Miles O' Stress
View JANRED45's food & exercise for this day
What a day! WHAT A DAY!!!! Oh my gosh! I just wanted to go back to bed and cover my head. Just insane. But I made it, relatively unscathed. Relatively... I did give in to Chinese for lunch instead of my salad. I did it somewhat responsibly. I started with a big bowl of hot and sour soup, then some light sushi, then some stir fried broccoli and about two tablespoons of white rice. If I stopped here, you could applaud me, but then I had a little bit of lomein noodles and some chicken. Yipes! Dinner was the salad I had set aside for lunch, so nice recovery, right???
Now, due to the level of stress... and that 1/2 marathon training thingie, I did manage to run 5 miles tonight. Five really fun miles... did I really say fun? I live in a small town with a beautiful downtown area full of amazing victorian homes. Now, I live in the little subdivision a few miles down the hill and across the railroad tracks...

I put my girls to bed and take off running downtown while my husband rides his bike on rollers on the front porch. He leave the window open to listen out for escapees in the house. My iPod is set with some really upbeat music, and the streets are empty except for these draping oak trees with sweeping moss. Quite tranquil, and great for running. I did say a fun run!
So, when the going gets tough, the tough get running. My biggest challenge today was overcoming my urge to eat chocolate, or to eat anything bad just because I was emotional. I even put on my running shoes at my desk today to walk to the store so that I could justify the calories I intended to eat when I got there. I took a breath and walked to the machine down the hall instead. Sounds dangerous right? There hung a lonely bag of pretzels calling my name. I have come a long way. That feels good.

Thanks for the note on the runner's forum! Stop in anytime to share info on your runs! The run tonight sounded fabulous. I would love to live in a small town...we live in the huge DFW metroplex. I was stressed today as well and came home for a shorter run, only 3.16 miles and half of it was a walk. I am no where near where you are, but you inspired me to think about it as a possibility! Thanks
