Thursday, Jan 15 2009 - Nice Run - Making Up For Lost Time

View JANRED45's food & exercise for this day

So today was pretty good. Had a lunch meeting with some of my partners in crime. Could have been disastrous, a buffet. Ole' Times Country Buffet of all things in the world! Now being born and raised in the south by a mama who could cook amazing fried chicken and greens and potatoes... oh man this blog has gone awry! Back to the task at hand, I was a good girl. I filled my first plate with a huge mound of lettuce, a couple of tomatoes, a few olives and a little bit of tuna salad. My second plate was all vegis except for the half piece of fried chicken that I ate. Now, I knew that tonight was a good running night, and the chicken was early enough in the day that it wasn't a major concern. You haven't heard the best part... I wasted a piece of pie. Yes, I am proud to say that I wasted a piece of pie. Decadent, coconutty, with chocolate chips, pie!!! I got it because it looked amazing. Then get this... I took one bite. Chewed it slowly and appreciated every morsel. I swear, I think it was one of the best I have ever tasted. Then I pushed it across the table. Was it the best ever because I actually took the time to savor and taste it for a change? When you really sit and experience a bite of something amazing, does it truly taste better?

The run was good. I am still suffering with some nocturnal asthma issues. It started about a month ago. I had this years ago and it just seemed to go away, but now it is kind of bothersome. I take Zyrtec D every night try to get some antihistamine in me before I run. Tonight the first mile was still a little shaky but it got much better. I finished 5.35 miles tonight in just under an hour. Not great, but not bad considering I run massive hills in this city. I am looking forward to my 7 mile run tomorrow. As crazy as that sounds, I get to run my long runs on the trail in town which is very flat. It is a much more enjoyable run. Not quite as much of a challenge. Not as pretty as running here, but still quite nice. It is a good excuse to be late for work on Fridays.

I am really tired. Hitting the hay.

Jan 5.35 miles in just under an hour is very good. Keep up the good work and soon you will be looking at the marathon as very doable. Do you run/walk of just run the entire time? I have found the Galloway run/walk method has helped me both get faster and go farther then I thought was possible.

Great job on the Buffet - specially at Old Country. I always mix that up with the Golden Coral. Anyway, the salad to begin with is the secret I think. and the pie at the end... is the finale. No one said that we have to eat the whole pie to be satisfied. :-)

MMMMmmm on the southern food. But I'll take a veggie chicken instead. :-)

Let's blame Canada for the cold since the wind came from there. It's going to dip down to -24 tonight and that's not taking into consideration the wind chill which will probably take it down to -45. Buuurrrrrr.
